No one likes murderers, but they too are entitled to a trial, not to say he didn't deserve to die, but even the worst criminals are entitled to a trial. I realize that it's better for the liberal agenda to kill the lefties that snap and go on killing sprees, but how are we ever going to understand these mental illnesses if the police chase then down and kill them prior to arrest?

Dornor was given the mandated choice, come out and surrender, or burn ... he chose to take a bullet to the face and burn.

Chris Dornor was his on judge, jury, and executioner.

Oh well that makes vigilante justice okay, if the cops do it.
If he was surrounded in a cabin, I guess your only choice is to burn it down, because like, waiting is soooo boring.

I think we're kind of getting off track on this former policeman who went off the deep end. I don't know enough facts to believe anything other than it was unfortunate but I believe the police acted within reason.

Not on this case, but on the number of school shootings and shooting sprees where innocent people were targeted I have to wonder how much the media might possibly influence these behaviors.

When a shooting occurs, the media starts a 24/7 saturation of coverage. Everything from people who knew the shooter as a child, former teachers, anybody who ever spoke to him are all interviewed. Basically that person become infamous and has his life examined ad naseum by every TV news site, internet news, etc..
I have to wonder if consciosly or unconsciously this may have some influence on a person with the mental dysfunction to commit such an act.

It may have nothing to do with it but I think it's worth looking at by the various groups that try to analyze what causes these otherwise just odd people to snap and kill innocent people. Since we are focusing so much attention on the guns they use, I think the possibility that all this coverage may have an influence on future shooters merits examination.

Select fire (fully automatic) rifles in "authority figures" hands = Defensive

Semi-auto in the peoples hands = Assault

Nothing to see here...move along...move along.

The NRA's newest ad in response to the president's calls for a chance to vote on gun control measures is typical of the kind of crap that made me decide to drop my membership a few years back. They're using an article given to the NRA by the Justice Department back January.

This report from the JD entitled “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies,” states that a ban on assault weapons is not likely to have an impact on gun crimes unless the government did a buy-back of guns. This same report states that background checks would not be very useful unless you had a gun registry. Now, this is a memo simply gives the opinon of the author about the proposed gun control legislation. The President has stated unequivicably that he does not want nor intend to try and take anybody's guns.

The NRA could have simply reported that according to an analysis from a Justice Dept group reviewing the gun control proposals, they found that the proposed gun control issues would have little benefit in preventing gun violence. But that doesn't scare gun owners which increases NRA membership and help build up their war chest. So they piece together an assumption that implies:

That the government wants to create a National Gun registry so they can take everybody's gun through a buy-back program insinuating a hidden agenda that just isn't true. Their ad clearly leads you to believe that President Obama wants to round up all your guns--something everybody including the prez knows is never going to happen. The NRA had a plausible argument that stated that the proposed gun legislation wouldn't be effective and that's what their ad should have said. Instead, they use this opportunity to sell fear and increase support. I find this to be a willful misrepresentation of the presiden't intentions and typical of the way the NRA manipulates to play on the fears of the American gun owners. Why do they have to take the low ground of deception when they can take the high road and make a legistimate case? Because it doesn't sell fear and promote conspiracy theories from which they benefit.

If Obama thought he could get by with it, he'd gather them up tomorrow. Don't let anyone convince you differently.
