Why is that, was he too honest with you about what you could afford and couldn't within the budget you gave him? Was he too upfront about the actual cost of a dream home and the reality of what YOU wanted to spend on one?

He built ours, and,it's sure NOT a "dog house." I'd rate him with any of the good ones such as Joe Little, ect and above a whole lot of the others.

At least 50% of his work force was "in lala land" he put on the wrong siding, he ordered the wrong brick, windows, a/c unit, roof leaked was fixed twice, floors are crappy, cracks in cieling. windows leak air, can lights in shower litteraly falling out of cieling there was 20 things that he did repair before the year warranty was up, but there were 11 things within that first year he flat out refused to fix. I have many awful pictures if you would like to see them. Being honest was the least of his best traits. money was not the issue.

I think I know which house you are talking about,it is the one with the front door on the end of the house.
My house that James built is NOTHING like you've described.

I pray your house is nothing like mine. I'm glad you had a good experience, I was just voicing my opinion and I definately did not have a good experience with him.

NO DAVID ONSTEAD! He may build a beautiful house, but good luck getting him to answer the phone or return phone calls, OR FINISH THE HOUSE.

I have plenty of experience with him....

Also NO KELLY COPELAND. He built my Mom's $500,000+ house... as soon as they closed he took the money and ran.... NEVER FINISHED! Cabinets weren't finished, paint wasn't finished, concrete wasn't finished. He let (used to at least) his nephew run the show and boy that was a mistake!

As far as Sugg homes... Brittany is a cutie and they build a beautiful house.. now don't expect it to be done on time... but that is any builder. I think the bigger problem with Sugg is the realtors they choose to represent them..... talk about no lights on upstairs.

I don't know about the "best residential builder" but Kent Arnold definately built what most people were in the market for. He made a killin' off of those houses! Smart man!
I'm surprised Kent's houses are still standing! Ask anyone who worked for him at the time he was building, they would NEVER live in one of his houses. An exact quote "if he could cut a corner, he would."

Oh, I definately agree with you! It is a wonder they are still standing because they were very cheaply built. I just meant that he knew that he had a monopoly on that price range house and he made money hand over fist! He just kept on building them and they just kept buying them!

I disagree with your information about Kelly Copeland and is Nephew! I have lived in a new construction built by his nephew for 7 months and it is a great house. They are amazing to work with. They are very attentive to my needs and when i need something fixed they are right on it. I have lived in 2 new contructions before and it was like pulling teeth to get the builders to come and fix the little cosmetic things. Copeland always returns my phone calls within an hour of me calling and they are at my house within a week to fix what ever i need. I would let them build a house for me anyday. I don't think Copeland was the issue in this particular case!!!!!!!!

Try Stonebridge Construction. They mostly build commercially but also do some residential. They have an awesome spec house I saw listed with Doty right now. It is really unique and beautiful. If only I could afford it...

I want to make sure this is clear!!! Sugg homes builds a gorgeous house. Brittany is young and has a great head on her shoulders... For being so young and successful, I think any naysayers may just be jealous! And as for thier REALTORS they are true professionals, very kindhearted and know how to get the job done. Anything I have said in the past is simply NOT TRUE and very wrong and hurtful, and I sincerely apolgize.

You need to call the ARKANSAS STATE CONTRACTORS LICENSING BOARD to check complaints before you decide to hire a contractor. All complaints are on file.

Best advice, go around and ask businesses who supply materials to contractors. They will tell you about Sugg homes or they may just shake their heads. It is all catching up to them. You can only do people dirty for so long. They should just pack their bags and leave town in shame. Brittany has ruined the Sugg name and it is not even her last name.

I am going to have to either say Daniels Construction or Dennis Jaynes construction, I deal with builders on a daily basis, and can honestly say most builders look for the cheapest material and labor, these two do not...

I won't say who in MY OPINION is the best builder. But, I can say that Brittney does not use only mexican labor. I know for sure that the skilled trades are local American workers. But, if you are worried about losing your job to Mexican laborers, then work as hard as they do!

Jim Abel is a great guy. I have done several jobs for him too. Always up front with what he expected.

Steve Schmidt is a good guy too. His house in the '06 Showcase was amazing.

Done some work for David Onstead as well. Unfortunatley that is all I can say.

I have done some residential and commercial work for John Perry/Stonebridge. I would choose another builder before John.

Joe Little is a great man. Most of the building population has respect for Mr.Joe. He was in a difficult spot as the inspector and still maintained a lot of respect.

Lonnie Roberts builds a solid home. I have had a minimal experience with him.

I have done some work for Tommy Loverin too. I am glad he doesn't do much in Northeast Arkansas now. He has taken most of his work to West Plains, MO. Sorry, Missouri!

Tim Redden is a good builder. He does what most Americans do! He does his job and tries to make as much money as he can while doing it. But, I have never seen him cut any corners. Ask Dr. Stank. Dr. Stank bought on of his Ridgepointe homes.

Todd Wilcox seems to be great at what he does too.

But, do what you want. Ask the guys at JT White, Ridout and Bartons for referalls. Then call and ask for refernces on a few. But, if a builder doesn't call you back then it's probably a sign of things to come. Just be an adult about it. Quit talking Junior High crap on an anonymous website!

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Aries

Keep a firm grip on your money today to avoid anyone else getting their mitts on it. If you're out in public you should keep your wallet or bag clamped to your side, just in case it goes walkabout. You should also make sure you check any bills and invoices that you're given, in case they contain a mistake. It's a day when errors and deceptions are highly likely.
