So says Stephen Hawking:

He should know. He's the smartest person in the world, and about all he can do is meditate on such important matters given his disabilities.

ROFLMAO!!! Here's more proof that even the most "knowledgeable" scientists reject foundational maxims of logic in order to maintain their errant views.

Hawking says in his book that "the universe can and will create itself from nothing".

Believing something can come from nothing is the height of irrational thought, and a complete rejection of logic.

Scientist my ass.

Just to belabor the point, think for a minute about what Hawking is suggesting. He says the universe can and will create itself.

Okay, so before it was created, the universe did not exist and there was nothing. Then, the universe created itself. How is that even possible? In order to create, the universe must first have to exist. So what Hawking is really claiming is that the universe existed before it was, in order to create itself.

What a load of bullshit! Something cannot exist before it exists. How can anyone take this guy seriously? He's lost all credibility.

This coming from the guy who claims a magical supernatural being created the universe from nothing...?

So what you're saying is that we shouldn't believe people who aren't scientists. Agreed, especially those steeped in right-wing christianist politics.

But it is entertaining to see that you take an impassioned position without reading the book. It seems it's enough to rely on a synopsis manufactured by the corporate media, hmmm?

Hawking is looking more and more like a scientist as we further examine your motives and methods.

If the universe were able to will itself into existence, that act would make it a sentient being, not unlike the widely accepted definition of God. So basically Hawking has constructed a circular argument, merely substituting the universe itself for an omnipotent deity.

Put that brain to some useful purpose, like curing cancer, or better yet, reversing baldness.

Hawking has never suggested will had anything to do with it. His entire premise is driven by the existance of gravity.

Gravity is the attractive force between objects; if there is nothing in the universe, there is no gravity. Gravity does explain the sequence of events in the universe following creation, but not the spark of creation itself. There must be a primary cause to begin causality.

Everything in the universe as we know it is balanced too perfectly for it all to be an "accident" or coming into existence from nothing. Even the evolutionists and atheists have to borrow from the "Christianity" world in order for their theories to have any substance. What is right and wrong morally for example.
This universe did come from something, a much higher power most of us refer to as God. I think Mr. Hawking is losing his mind in his old age!

Absolutely! Makes more sense than nothing creating something!!

You are going to have to be more specific about "balanced".
That just ambigious and adds no credibility to the subject.

Just remember...we have a universal law of gravitation...but that doesn't explain exactly how gravity works or why it does what it does...it just says basically that gravity is there. it exists. Everywhere we look we observe it and we can measure it and all that..but we still don't know why it works the way it does.

So who knows what gravity might be capable of that we haven't discovered yet. Or some scientists have proposed the idea that gravity may be some sort of side-effect of something else....the point is we just don't know for sure. So you cannot claim to have exclusive knowledge about gravity and how it would have behaved immediately after the big bang or 'creation'. No one knows for sure.

It comes from a guy who refuses to reject known scientific laws, foundational maxims of logic, reason and common sense.

What's next, will Hawking deny that 2+2=4 in order to maintain an atheistic view?

I'm saying that if you believe something can pop into existence from nothing, you've lost your grasp on rational thought.

I'm saying that if you're ignorant enough to believe that something can exist even before it exists so that it can create itself, you'll believe almost anything.

Some of us just aren't that stupid.
But it is entertaining to see that you take an impassioned position without reading the book. It seems it's enough to rely on a synopsis manufactured by the corporate media, hmmm?
I'm not relying on corporate media. He claims in his book that the universe created itself from nothing. That's about as irrational and unscientific as one can get. But hey, if you're stupid enough to swallow that bullshit, go for it. I'll stick with science and logic.

Exactly what I thought! This, to me, seems like the simplest reason this couldn't in any way be true...even from an athiestic or Christian view!

What is being suggested is that your so called god/imaginary friend created this planet is saying that something created this planet from nothing.

In your buy bull does it mention what time era that your imaginary friend decided to put all of these other planets, stars, suns, and fragments of rock into what we know as the universe? How long did it take this friend to do so? By assuming that your friend has done so, is it crazy to think that there could possibly be lots of other solar systems that could be almost identical to ours?
