When I first moved to Jonesboro AR I had several people recommend Discovery Island but enrolling my son there turned out to be a big mistake. Which do you recommend?

I would try Kids Kingdom, heard great things about them. Also First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, and Central Baptist all have good daycare programs. If you only need a couple of days a week, First Presbyterian is the best.

I would recommend Hilltop Childcare (Hilltop Tiny Tots in phone book, I believe). My two kids attended there, one is still there. The owners did just recently change so I am only speaking for the past 4 years. I have been thrilled with the workers, care, EVERYTHING!! They are great and have taught my kids SO MUCH!!! All of the teachers are the same since the new owners. The previous owner was there for 31 years. The new owners just started this week and so far it has been just as wonderful!

I highly recommend Discovery Island...I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. I teach at a local school and all the students we get from D.I. are very advanced. Kid's Kingdom, St. Mark's and First United Methodist are all good.

I highly recommend SHINING STAR ACADEMY. It has an ABC Pre-K center and a very good private pay program. Like discovery island, they have a formal cirriculum and teach daily lesson plans. I believe they are also the only daycare in town with both double security doors and security cameras in place. They are far more secure than other places in terms of making sure children are picked up only by those that are supposed to. Their rates are competitive too.

My daughter has been going to Oasis 4 Kids for 9 years. We removed her once to go somewhere cheaper...came back as quick as we could! Great staff, and Sherry Hibbs is an excellent director.

11/19/08:'Warning!'

Let me start off by saying that my son 1st attended Discovery Island @ 18 months of age. At 1st he/we really liked it but there was an incident where he vomited ONE time (20 months old at the time) and was sent to the Director's office to be segregated from the rest of the children until I picked him up. It was a little over the top in my opinion but that's just me. What I really had a problem with was that when I arrived to pick him up he was nowhere to be found. I and another teacher had to SEARCH for him. His regular teacher had already left for the day so when I asked his afternoon teacher where he was she did not know. So, we continued searching for him and FINALLY found him in the Director's office and ALONE in a dark room! The Director was NOWHERE in the building although she was SUPPOSE to be in the office waiting with my son for me to pick him up. Now let me remind you this facility is located right next to a busy road and he could have just walked out onto the highway if he wanted to. Also, the office is where they keep ALL of the medicines that the parents bring for their child so he could have gotten into that as well!!!! Anyway, this is already long enough so I will end with saying that I spoke with BOTH of the owners and neither of them took care of the situation and as far as I know the Director was NOT reprimanded!!!

My daughter goes to April Lynns daycare on Johnson. It is right beside school which is good for me. They do a wonderful job with the kids, and it is cheap. They take vouchers too if you have those. They feed them breakfast and lunch plus 2 snacks. They are open at night and on weekends if you need them then. They teach the kids a great deal of knowledge. My lil one has learned a ton since she started there. They potty train too. Nothing bad to say here! Only great stuff!

I agree that Oasis 4 Kids is the BEST! My son has been going there since he was 8 months old, he is almost 3 now. The staff is awesome and they really care about the kids that go there. Ms. Sherry is awesome too.

To my knowledge, there are only 2 daycares in Jonesboro that are accredited. First United Methodist and ASU's daycare. This mean that they are the only 2 programs that have met MORE than the minimum state guidelines. They have officials from varying organizations come in and rate the facility on things like: the language the care givers use when speaking to children, the classroom set up, how many times employees wash their hands, potty training techniques, meal preparation, appropriate toys and play time, and MUCH more. In order to be an accredited facility (like these 2 that I mentioned), you have to score incredibly high in all of these areas. Hope that helps!

Actually april lynns was given to me by ASU. The young lady that runs it graduated from ASU and the lady who actually owns it owns several. I find it hard to believe those are the only 2 accredited.

Candy land is also accredited in Jonesboro. There are not many to choose from that are accreditted. I was completely surprised too considering that the ASU program is here in town and helps with that process. Candy Land was a great daycare. It is small and they really care for your child.]
