GOP block Violence Against Women Act Renewal

I cannot for the life of me understand why the Violence Against Women Act isn't unanimously renewed but Republicans in the House of Representatives are determined not to pass it but instead write a different version lacking the same crucial protections. It's like Republicans are determined to alienate the largest voting block in the country-women. They want to control their vaginas from cradle to grave, substitue their opinions for those of a woman's doctor, and decide whether or not they can use birth control. But they are damned determined NOT to pass a simple law helping to insure the owners of these vaginas is not protected from violence. This is really pathetic and is pretty consistent with the anti-women attitudes of quite a few of the Republicans on Capital Hill. I hope you ladies remember all this GOP love in 2014!

Women are supposed to be totally equal. Why do they want special laws? Wouldn't that be sexist?

They are totally equal in deserving the rights and liberties guaranteed in the Constitution. In reality they are paid statisically less for the same work, afforded different treatment in the workplace and in many cases in the household. If you would bother to read up on the issues effected by this act you wouldn't post such an uninformed comment. Hell, in some of the more backword religious denominations, especially in the South, they are expected to be subservient to their husband in all matters of importance. Equal treatment is part of what the VAWA is directed toward which would explain why so many of the GOP congressmen are trying to block it's renewal.

So it's equality within certain guidelines.

It's equality where physically abusive men can't use cruelty & violence to impose their will without the reprocussions of law balancing out the scale.

So being against violence on women is a liberal idea? That's funny because when it was enacted it was done with bi-partisan support. Then the make up of the Republican party changed and it now has a large number of old white men who are obsessed with controling women's vagina's and reproductive rights but don't care if they are systematically abused along with their children-just as long as they have control of those vaginas! This should be a non-partisan issue with unanimous support and it's a sad statement about those 22 Republicans who don't want it renewed.

So, much for equal protection under the law.

You're right. If that were a reality instead of an idea there wouldn't be a need for this law, but it isn't.
