What is the hourly rate for registered nurses in this area? Which hospitals are the best to work for?

Currently, nea's starting rate for an rn is $20.20. I don't know what St bs is. St Bernards has multiple departments and offers a lot of services to their patients. St bs has the funds available for activities, community programs, and is a large presence in this region. Havin worked there, I can honestly say that employees are numbers just like their patients. Employees and patients alike are herded in and out like cattle without anyone fully being aware of important issues. As a rn at St bs, I often had 8 patients and barely had enough time to to the tasks absolutely necessary for my patients. The nurses giving me report often didn't know much of a patient history because they didn't have time to look at the h&p or the progress notes all day. All they had time for, like me, was to shuffle patients in and out and pass meds. It was very hard to make patients feel important or special when u were struggling the whole shift. I never felt like part of a team. I would start an iv or do a dressing change for a nurse but never was helped in return. I saw enough critical mistakes and horrible patient neglect, that I eventually left. I spoke with several administrators about my concerns when I resigned.

At NEA, there is definitely more of a family atmosphere. I feel like a team. From purchasing, to pharmacy, to housekeeping, and everywhere in between, I know that I can depend on my coworkers to do the right thing. There are currently fewer services offered at NEA, but we know where to send our patients if they need something that we don't provide. When the new facility opens, this region will have so many more options and state of the art technology at NEA. I feel confident every day that I have provided excellent patient care at NEA. That is made possible by the teamwork, excellent physicians, and uplifting atmosphere. Nit to mention patient load for a rn at NEA does not exceed 6-7 patients. The typical patient load for one rn is 5-6. Excellent benefits at NEA and a very promising future.

That kind of pay is pathetic. I was told St. Bernards RN's pays nurses who just graduated around 30 an hour. If that is wrong I definitely will be moving or will be traveling to little rock or memphis where they make like 60 and hour! Hospitals around here need to step it up.

Let us know when you land one of those 60 buck an hour jobs in LR or Memphis, and where it is. I'd say that St Bernard's is NOT paying new graduates $30 an hour. Not when they've worked nurses there for years that are just now making about $25 an hour.If they are paying that, they've certainly come light years forward on their pay scale.

They are not making that much. I know a nurse who was an LPN for St. Bernards for 8 years and went back to become an RN. When she became an RN she was promoted last year and was making $21.80/hr with shift differential.

I also have a friend that is an RN at Baptist in Little Rock. He has been an RN for about 6 years and makes $28.15 in Little Rock. Depending on where you work in the hospital, like the ER or ICU, and shifts you work(nights and weekends) will determine your pay. I can guarantee you that you will not see $60 an hour as an RN anywhere in the south. That is $120,000 a year, which is a higher wage than any Nurse Practioner makes and is more than a lot of doctors make.

Okay these rates that you all posted..does it make a difference if you have an associates or BSN? Like the 20.20 at NEA..would that be for a BSN or Associate RN? Ive been told there isn't much of a difference..like 10 cents.

$60,921 average in the state of New York. That is $29.29 an hour.

Estimated median house or condo value in 2008 in the state of New York:$318,000

Estimated median house or condo value in 2008 in Jonesboro, AR:$125,000

The average RN in Jonesboro is around $24/hour or $49,920 a year with an average mortgage payment of $730 per month.

The average RN in New York is around $30/hour or $62,000 per year with an average mortgage payment of $1855 per month.

Feel free to move north to make a higher wage, but it doesn't do you much good if your paying $2000 a month for a 1000 square foot 1 bedroom apartment.

If nurses made $166,000 per year, I don't believe we would have such a shortage of nursing in this country. Why be a doctor if you can go to school 4 years and make that kind of money?

Every nurse needs to move to California, specifically the Bay Area (San Francisco). New Grads on night shift start at $52/hour. I have been at my hospital for about a year and make a little over that an hour, including bonuses, overtime, doubles, etc. whenever I choose. Yes, it is a little more expensive to live out here, but it isn't THAT bad. Also, think about when you've been working for a while...you'd make well over that an hour and the housing market has gone down in recent years.

Move to California!!!

Southern California starts New Grad RN's at about $35/hour I believe...maybe more? It's much cheaper to live in Southern California as well.
