The U.S. economy posted a stunning drop of 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter, defying expectations for slow growth and possibly providing incentive for more Federal Reserve stimulus.

The economy shrank from October through December for the first time since the recession ended, hurt by the biggest cut in defense spending in 40 years, fewer exports and sluggish growth in company stockpiles.

The Commerce Department said Wednesday that the economy contracted at an annual rate of 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter. That's a sharp slowdown from the 3.1 percent growth rate in the July-September quarter.

The surprise contraction could raise fears about the economy's ability to handle tax increases that took effect in January and looming spending cuts.

I thought we were in a recovery. guess not.

The recession ended in June '09.

This is a full blown depression.

Maybe the 2012 Q3 numbers were just bullshit to help Obama get re-elected, like the grossly understated unemployment numbers.

The economy sucks. We all know that. Obama and the Democrats had two full years with absolute control of Congress and the White House. They implemented their economic policies, and over time they have been proven failures. Democrat socialist economic policies do not work. They end in economic collapse every time.

It's sad that the retarded liberal idiots sent Obama back to the White House to do the same thing he's done for the last 4 years, yet they expect different results.

What is the definition of insanity?

Doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different response.

Exactly, which is why we should expect the economy to remain in the toilet until we see a different party controlling the Senate and White House.

But, according to the Left, Socialism will work in America even though it has failed everywhere else.

Wait, what is the definition of insanity?

The economy is bad because of the lack of jobs that actually meet the cost living which is why most corporations have acquired their cash and equivalents on their balance sheets from the power of leverage and borrowing in our lending system instead of from sales and earnings.
