12 million for 900 jobs? Where did all the money actually go? I don't think it went to the 900 workers....

This what was intended. Keeping people employeed or putting people back to work. Excellent use of simulus money. Congress should extend funding for programs like this one.

Yes, it has created jobs. It better when we're throwing 900 billion dollars of borrowed money at the problem. While you always can find a hundred jobs here, a hundred jobs there to show "it" is working,,,, you rarely bring up the "OTHER" promise of the stimulus.... pass it and unemployment would not grow past 8%. How's that promise of the stimulus working out?

I'm wondering how this will be sustainable. I'm glad to the people it is helping who are in immediate need.

I suspect the $$s aren't all spent yet. And I'm curious how much of it will be for "administrative" costs

In other words, not really "create" jobs, just subsidize a company that is apparently failing at the level at which it was operating. Better use would be to either provide tax incentives (not penalties for health care compliance)in order for the business or companies like this to expand, or for job training for employees to enter the workforce doing something in an industry that IS viable. Any government subsidized program that does not require sustainability on the part of the enterprise is a taxpayer vortex.

If you want to talk about a taxpayer vortex, talk about our Department of Defense.

The 2009 U.S. military budget is almost as much as the rest of the world's defense spending combined.

The U.S. Navy has a battle fleet, which in terms of tonnage, is larger than the next 13 navies combined — and 11 of those 13 navies are U.S. allies or partners.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, 38–44% of all estimated tax revenues are spent directly on our military. This does not include many military-related items that are outside of the Defense Department budget, such as nuclear weapons research, maintenance, cleanup, and production, which is in the Department of Energy budget, Veterans Affairs, the Treasury Department's payments in pensions to military retirees and widows and their families, interest on debt incurred in past wars, or State Department financing of foreign arms sales and militarily-related development assistance. Neither does it include defense spending that is not military in nature, such as the Department of Homeland Security, counter-terrorism spending by the FBI, and intelligence-gathering spending by NASA. Add all that up and over 50% of our tax money is spent for a military that is still at it's core designed to fight a war with the USSR, which doesn't even exist any more.

The stimulus is peanuts compared to the financial black hole that we have created for ourselves by spending more on our military then we can afford.

The spendulous package didn't "create" any of these "jobs". You can't steal from person A to pay person B and call it a job. Orwell is probably laughing his butt off in his grave...

Don't sweat the money spent on the military, Mark. Calderon/Cartel/Obama, Inc. will bring plenty of money into the DC/DF budget. It will more than offset the money spent on the not needed American military. Why don't you join the military or the Cartel branch of Calderon/Cartel/Obama, Inc. and get in on some of this lucrative money. I mean people in the military make a lot of money, right?

That is only $13,333 annually per position. Minimum wage would be $15,080 a year before taxes. 12 million doesn't go very far but it is better than nothing!

Except according to the story, the government only pays for two to four months, and sometimes up to six. It has different qualifiers to what they pay also so computing annually will not justify the money spent for 900 jobs.

Clearly you are only qualified to be private soldier, so your impression of how much people make in the military must be based on that myopic view. You'll find that over in officer country the pickings are pretty good. A general officer makes between $200,000 and $500,000 a year all told, but that is peanuts compared to what the real big boys make.

No my friend, if I wanted to make money from the military I would want to do it the way that Dick Cheney and his friends at Haliburton did it, or the way that Donnie Rumsfeld and his friends at Blackwater did it, or the way that Robert Stevens over at Lockheed Martin is doing it ..... by the trainload.

Any way you slice it we spend over one trillion dollars a year on our military, but less then 16% of that goes to military personnel.

So when I hear people carping about how the sky is falling because our President and Congress put together a one-time expenditure package designed to help "Main Street" through the Great Republican Recession, I am amused, because we spend that much every year on our military, year in and year out.
