the same thing happened to the steam boat that was researched and explored by the archaeoligusts on REd River. Why did it take so long to do the recovery of artifacts. Every one knew about the steamer being sunk on Red River.

hAVE THEY ever researched the steam ship landing near the Kiamiche river, the RED RIVER, and Gates Creek landing where Gates Creek runs into the river. Used to unload supplies in that area and had facilitiies there. I belive if memory serves me right-- Ft. Towson had supplies brought in by stean ship there. Does any of the old timers there know where the landing was

A lot of the products that that steamer was hauling was salvaged as the river was not that deep in that spot and there was a shoals there near the kiamicheeriver where it enter the Red River. And if I was told right by an old man I knew that fished the river there that was the last stop for asteamer as they could only go that far because of the shoals on Red River. As then and as it is now the Red River in that area was used by shallow drft steamers. Has any excavating ever been done on that landing place they used to offload supplies for Ft. Towson and the local store of that time. I do believe there was a building there also. I used to fish the Red till a few years ago with an old man that knew just about all the history of Ft. Towson-- that is as long as it was about the olden times. South of the Rail Road there was a cannon range where they shot cannons to target practive. They shot at the other hill at the side of the creek from east to the west cliff. At times there had been a cannon ball found there on the cannon target range.

that old man sure could tell his history of the old Fort. See you later TEETOT. And he loved to fish from his home made boat, he left it tied up on the Red. He made it out of 1 X 12s and it had a tarred botton to kep it from leaking. And just like they soaked old wagan wheels to keep the rims on they he kept that boat soaked to keep it from leaking. Seems he never took it out of the water.
