I particularly liked the point presented:

World War II heroes have been faced with metal wire, sandbags, and barricades before and overcame them. It's time to say: Mr. President, tear down these walls.

(Holdie... Note the "metal wire" phrase above....)

I have nothing but the utmost respect for the remaining WWII vets and always have. But I dont feel its right you or anyone else try and use them as pawns in your political agenda. I have attended many events and have had several family members who are vets of WWII and Korea. As a matter of fact I just buried an uncle who served in Korea last July. Just to give you a little perspective.
What I dont appreciate is you using this to further you anti Obama agenda, and most especially going after the common government worker who is doing their job. You being the ass you are tried using comparison to Nazi soldiers. You tried saying you found it to be almost an act of war. You and your alter ego told us that they had put up barbed wire, not true. You tried to use a picture showing vets being held back by a cyclone fence which was obviously photo shopped and you thought it was real and that you had proved some great point. You are what you are and that is a complete and total horses ass. You care less about the vets, than you do about politicizing these events. Thats what is sad. So go stick some barbed wire where the sun dont shine and then have Professor take a picture and photo shop your face behind the wire because your head is without a doubt up your ass.
It's Obama using them as pawns for his political agenda. There was no reason for him to baracade the WWII memorial.

You don't like this being publicized as an anti-Obama agenda? This should be celebrated as a pro-Obama agenda in your perspective? Maybe we should ignore it according to you? Your position is not solid on this subject.

If you actually have the utmost respect for our veterans like you claim, you would be as outraged as Neighbor, The Veterans, and I am. Instead you defend this move by Obama. Your not the person you think you are!

Not that you will believe it but this has no more to do with Obama other than he is president now. The monuments being closed is standard operating procedure in a government shutdown. Do some research and look up the government shutdown of 1995-96. The memorials and national parks properties were closed then as well. CNN posted an article and on top of that article it showed a police officer standing in front of barricades showing a monument closed signs that picture is from 1995. The difference is right wing goofs like you trying to blame it directly on Obama. Like he gave some direct order to close just those memorials because he hates vets. Good grief you are either very dumb or very biased. I will guess a combo of both. The problem is that you can't see the truth through your own distorted opinion fueled by right wing propaganda publications. Try some research through unbiased sources. Hell even just Wikipedia the govt shutdown of 1995-96 it shows the number of park service locations that were shut and number of visitors lost. Wake up

Oh Holdie... Surely you played Detective on that bad CNN information? Holdie, Holdie, Holdie.... No Detective Badge For You!

Although President Obama claims that he can’t avoid shutting down public sites and monuments, war memorials were in fact kept open during the 1995/1996 government shutdowns. The administration’s decision to barricade the Lincoln Memorial marks the first time in its history the memorial has been totally off limits to visitors during a shutdown.

The administration has also balked at efforts by non-governmental groups to maintain access to public sites.

But during the Clinton-era shutdown, World War II veterans kept the Pearl Harbor memorial open.

As well as.....

Warren Meyer of Phoenix, AZ, is owner and president of Recreation Resource Management, Inc. RRM employs about 400-500 camp workers and managers across about a dozen states. It is one of a handful of companies that have been managing national parks and campgrounds as tenants for years, through previous government shutdowns including the last one in 1995-1996. Those previous shutdowns never closed any of the parks managed in this way, but the current shutdown threatens closure.

The campgrounds are self-sufficient and receive no federal funding. No government employees staff or manage the parks. The management companies pay the National Park Service out of the funds they generate from operating the thousands of campgrounds. So the reason for the shutdown is puzzling to Meyer.

Today, he sent a letter to both of his senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, asking for help to keep his parks open.

“My company, based in North Phoenix, operates nearly over 100 US Forest Service campgrounds and day use areas under concession contract. Yesterday, as in all past government shutdowns, the Department of Agriculture and US Forest Service confirmed we would stay open during the government shutdown. This makes total sense, since our operations are self-sufficient (we are fully funded by user fees at the gate), we get no federal funds, we employ no government workers on these sites, and we actually pay rent into the Treasury.”

Notice that last part. The parks not only do not cost the taxpayers any money, they pay funds into the Treasury out of the fees park users pay. Shutting them down will cost the taxpayers money.

Here's an article written by a friend of mine:
Editorial
WWII vets storm another beachhead

David A. Lombardo

You know what frosts my oranges? Being disrespectful of the military. In fact, it's disrespect of anyone who puts on a uniform and goes in harm's way to protect others. So that would include law enforcement officers, fire fighters, paramedics and EMTs, auxiliary deputies, and... well, you get the idea.

And I don't care if they're Airborne Special Forces or a cook. When the Hun jumps over the fence, even the cook walks away from the pot of simmering SOS, picks up a weapon and ˇhola!-instant infantry rifleman. When you put on a uniform, you are writing a blank check to your country in an amount up to and including your life and for pay that in most cases an illegal alien would turn up their nose over.

If you ask why they do it, there's nothing I can say that you're going to understand. You either get it or you don't. But if you don't, at the very least respect the fact that they are the folks that provide you with a country in which you can, for the most part, jump in your Lexus SUV, hit the drive-through and grab that Big Mac with supersized fries, Coke and an apple pie on the way to the doctor's office to get your insulin shot.

Mind you, not for one minute do I think every citizen should serve in one of those roles. The fact is some people are suited for that life and some aren't; there's nothing wrong about it. I do think everyone should serve their country in some manner, but that's a topic for another day.

What's crawled under my skin today is the messiah jerking a bunch of World War II veterans around. Obama, pouting because the nasty Republicans have shut down the federal government as they try to derail Obamacare, came up with an idiotic plan. He closed the national monuments, including the World War II memorial, which he knew was slated for viewing by an Honor Flight of World War II vets, blamed it on the Republicans and said there was no money to run the national monuments. The plan was to turn the Republican's traditional military-minded base against them.

You know, for a community organizer Obama ain't the brightest bulb in the lamp factory. The World War II monument is a stone edifice that is accessible 24-hours-a-day with no restrictions at all. The Park Service had to truck in barricades and position them around the monument to close it, thereby actually expending time and money to close a monument that didn't require any time or money to keep open.

When the 80+ year old contingent arrived, those brave veterans who stormed the beach at Normandy and raised the flag on Iwo Jima, stormed the monument ignoring the barriers albeit a tad slower than they did in 1944.

The Park Rangers, who were stationed at the monument for the first time and only to prevent the vets from seeing it, didn't raise a finger. And the vets had a greeting party composed of both Republican and Democratic legislators who were on hand to be sure the vets got to see the monument unfettered.

I'm not sure if even an ostrich egg was big enough to cover Obama's face. And it makes me wonder if the Obama Community Organizer monument was closed too. Oh wait, there is no Obama Community Organizer monument; he just got that silly old Nobel Peace Prize for storming the streets of Chicago - organizing.

I would accept an apology, but its not necessary. I like "Hold On" and I admit I am hard on him at times. I do it in fun, but its not always perceived that way.

But like you said sometimes your sources are wrong. I have had that happen to me as well. I did clarify to 'Hold On" that is was not barbed wire, but just wired shut. I also told him the government workers were noble and let the vets in to see the memorial.

I am not too proud to offer an apology to "hold on"
I really enjoy his input and position. I apologize if I come off as insulting "Hold On" Can you accept that from me ? None of us are perfect!

Professor... Cival disobedience is on edge across the country. Go check stories about people/towns living in Smokey Mountains, and what Obama is doing to him.

Plus, did you hear Obama decided to hide from the responsibility of the Debt Ceiling & Budget? He announced that he gave Reid full authority, responsibility & leadership over all negotiations. No kidding... go read the news.
