Have her charge whatever they want, and then add at least $1 per child. If after a certain time, rate goes up. Saturday night after midnight rates should go to 3 times of a normal time.

I don't think a 13 year old could baby sit in the evening after a certain hour.I believe they have to be at least, 15 or 16 but not positive of the age.

The price normally depends on children's ages, responsibility needed and length of time. Being 13 is quite young, so I wouldn't expect too awful much, nor would I put a lot of responsibility on her at that age. I normally paid by the night for my two young children. My kids would be fed, bathed and just needing minor supervision for 4 to 5 hours. I would be home before midnight. The sitter would be dropped off, and I would take her home. Normally I would give her $20....more if the house was picked or if I really found her valuable to keep.

It all depends upon the quality of the sitter. I ask them upfront....

I have two kids in lower/middle school age and well behaved. They are self sufficient, just need someone around to suprvise a bit. The sitter usually ends up playing with them until bed time, then she's free to watch cable/movies, eat whatever I have, play games on the PC. Quite an easy job, so I pay $5/hour. When my kids were babies and needed to be changed, fed, rocked, etc. I paid more. I feel this is fair for what's involved. She keeps coming back so I assume the rate is OK w/her.

I don't know what the going rate is. I have never hired another child to watch my children.

Do you think babysitting is bad? Not sure what your point is other than to slam people who like/need to go out once in a while. Perhaps you are jealous.

Twenty dollars for 4-5 hours watching young children? Sounds like your sitter was ripped off!

Not really...they were in bed sleeping for at least half the time. I got them fed, bathed and ready for bed before she even got there, so $20 to read them a book or play a game or two seemed fair to her. That was a couple of years back, so the price may have gone up.

The sweat shop reference went right over your head variables. Sure you can afford to go downtown and eat and see plays cause you save money by not paying the sitter a reasonable rate. And you parents who act like because your kids are fed and ready for bed the job should pay less, need to understand your paying for time and piece of mind. Any kid you hire can eat food at thier own house, play games, and surf the net. Unless the Jonas brothers are in concert in your basement on said night, dont think your supplying these kids with great surroundings.

Give it a rest.$5/hour to sit and watch TV, eat snacks, play games in a comfy home is a very fair deal. Yes, they could be doing it at home and NOT getting paid anything!! Min. wage in Illinois is $7.758, less taxes, so really $5 cash is not a bad deal. If you want to earn a tad more, go to McDonald's all day and stand on your feet slinging greasy food and dealing with the public.

Oh lighten up, it was meant to be a joke. Geez get off your highhorse. I'm not jealous of anyone or anything. I have a very fulfilling life unlike some people on this forum. I'm going to take a wild guess that you are one of the unfulfilled people here. Get a life and a sense of humor.

What a great baby sitting job-I sure hope nothing ever goes wrong while they are babysitting, cause it's a HUGE responsibility if your watching kids. You should hire a homeless person to watch your kids, they might appreciate all your fancy surroundings, and you obviously dont value the babysitter your using now. Save a few bucks and hire any idiot to watch your kids-that way they might not notice your even gone.

Hey I think $20 if great since all the work is done and they are just making sure the kids are safe. I babysit 2 kids in my home for 9 hours a day. Feeding, diapers, baths, the whole 9 yards and I get $45 a day and I am not 13, I am 34! I think it is comical that these teens end up making more than the women doing it all day in their home for moms going out making 60,000 a year! Even daycare centers make very little when you consider how long the kids are there and what they are doing for the kids. Why do these teens get paid so much more???

40 bucks for the fist few hours, than 15 bucks an hour after that.
