What exactly is he protesting and do you feel so strongly about it that you would protest along side with him? Or are you just another clueless kid from the burbs pissing away your parents money at school. Who the hell wants to stop and talk with a homeless person. Don't you have anything more valuable to do with your time?? If you feel so strongly about protesting and giving the guy a break then I have an idea for you --- ask your parents if he can stay in your room while you're away at school. Surely someone as caring as you could arrange this.
Wake up and smell the coffee please. This homeless individual serves no purpose other than accepting a handout. He does not benefit Naperville and I'm pretty sure would not benefit any town he decides to camp in.
He seems to be crazy but he's smart enough to know that the handouts are better in downtown Naperville than they would be in downtown Joliet or Aurora.
I don't care if you think it's snotty or stuck up, but this is not the inner city ghetto. People who pay the high Naperville taxes to own and home here and put kids like you through a very good education system don't need trash like this sitting outside a parking garage. Maybe someday when you have a job, mortgage and family you'll understand to appreciate the things many take for granted. Nothing in this world should be handed out for free on a silver platter. If that was the case, nobody would have an appreciation for things that are earned through hard work.
Bitching and moaning, crying that life didn't give you a fair shot will earn little sympathy from those that came from far worse beginnings and made something of their lives.
Before you go on assuming things about me, let me just say, I'm not "pissing" away anything. I'm paying for my own schooling, the 20% of it not covered by academic scholarships anyway, so I would appreciate it if you didn't patronize me. And I don't understand how stopping to talk to someone, to ask them questions, or to learn how they got to where they are isn't a valuable use of my time. At 14 I went out and applied to all the businesses within walking distance of my house, and have held a job for the last two and a half years. I don't need a mortgage and a family to appreciate things other people take for granted. I was the only person I knew to buy my own car from a dealership and not take a handout from my parents like most other Naperville teenagers do. I know what it means to work hard for what you want and need, but that doesn't mean I have the right to look down on or judge anyone else or their circumstances.

Despite Scott's lack of work ethic (as some may argue), he is still a human being and still has a right to "protest" on the streets of Naperville if he pleases. If we were talking about a gay rights protest or a pro-life organization camping out on a public sidewalk outside of a Planned Parenthood, would you feel the same way. Would you say they do not have the right to camp out on the sidewalk to argue their convictions? Scott has rights just like anyone else, whether you agree with his arguments or not.

Here is a good idea for you Emily.
Why not invite Scott to move his trashy dump over to the sidewalk in front of your house. That should make you feel better. The neighbors may not get overjoyed when their property values plummet from having a dump in there front yards. But who cares it's his right.

He has the right to put whatever amount of crap anywhere he wants because its a protest.

What a joke. Think about it.

He isn't in front of anybody's house. He is in front of a parking garage... has been for years. It's a PUBLIC SIDEWALK. Think about it.

Im guessing its trendy for Emily to care about Scott, or to say that she does.....
Get a clue Emily and then choose a better cause to fight for.

Yes, Scott because of some forward thinking people you do have some rights granted to you as a citizen of this great country. Freedom of Speech has been granted, the pursuit of religion and so on.

You on the other hand are practicing eminent domain. This right is given to the government to capture land for a betterment to the public. Real estate can be acquired by the government at a fair price.
You have captured space for your own betterment a detriment to the public for nothing, in essence a squatter!

The Constitution gives you rights so that you can become a productive citizen and add to the greatness of this country in a multitude of ways. One of those ways doesn't include panhandling and taking up free space.
So Scott, quote the great philosophers, the Constitution and the the Bible. Cloak yourself in the protection of rights given to you, but know in the end you are not living in the SPIRIT of these great teachings. You are merely surfing atop the good deeds and struggles of others.

I bid you once again to pick up your shanty and sweep the area you have camped clean of your existence. Join productive society and stop using the Constitution and it's beautifully written Bill of Rights as your toilet paper.

Like I said the first time, what is he protesting?!?? When you mention gay rights and pro life protesters, compared to the Naperville bum, you are comparing apples to nothing! That bum has nothing to protest about except making a busy sidewalk in a nice town his home. I don't care if someone agrees or disagrees with gay rights/pro life protesters because all of them carry on a normal life aside from that with families and jobs. None of them are sitting there waiting for someone to give them a handout. And don't be so naive. They protest for a few hours. They don't camp out and live there for 8 years.

Like I said and like others have said, why don't you invite him to camp outside the curb by your parents house. Surely you or your parents wouldn't have a problem with that either. Even better, do as I said the first time and invite him to stay in your room while you're away at school. Someone as concerned about this bum as you surely doesn't want him spending another harsh winter with sub zero temperatures on the sidewalk.

Why the hell would you want to talk to him anyhow? He is clearly a crazy person and nobody with any sense would waste their time to carry on a conversation with him. But you don't see it that way do you. You found talking to him was useful and valuable time spent.

Regardless of what you think, that bum doesn't deserve any of the rights you claim he should have. He doesn't pay taxes, he doesn't contribute to Naperville or society in general.

There are plenty of other options for him such as homeless shelters and halfway houses. www.hesedhouse.org
The problem is, many homeless people are mentally unstable and choose homeless living as a way of life. It is normal to them in their minds to live like this. Talk to anyone that works in a shelter or law enforcement and they will tell you the same thing.

Regardless of what people think of Naperville or how some will stereotype it, Naperville is not a place people like to live in or visit and see a bum living on a sidewalk. A bum living in other places like downtown St. Charles or Batavia would get the same reaction.

I just drove past the parking garage this morning and I'm happy to report this eye sore is gone. It's nice to see a clean sidewalk without it being cluttered with garbage.

That pile of garbage was disgusting to look at. It's also nice that all his belongings and tent are gone too.

I beg your pardon Dan, but I happen to be a 51 yr old. I am the proud owner of a small business and home owner, a punk by no means.
I am not sure what compelled you to attack me with the name calling but I will assume you think I am a punk for my post about Huber having fans on facebook. Since I found that somewhat amusing to discover, I thought some of the folks who have been following these posts would find it somewhat entertaining as well.
Have a wonderful week Dan.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Sagittarius

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
