I am not here to bash John,Mongo,or Fred. Instead I would like to look at something they all have done. Taking donations from liquor establishments. As a long time resident I and many others would like to see this practice stop. Another thing us long time residents would like to see stopped is taking donations from village vendors. While we all know in most cases this is and will not be a problem. How ever what happens at some point when asked to pay back the favor. I just hope who ever gets elected will put some type of political reform on the agenda.
<quoted text>
who is he and why do I feel like his good restaurant mongo is white trash? Hosting boxing matches with kids at a bar and grill sounds trashy. It's one thing to have it at a tournament facility but at mongo mcmichaels? C'mon. A joke. I'm hating romeoville more now. Anyone else understand what I'm saying?
..... Looks like a perfect match for Romeoville!!! He belongs with all the white trash that live there

What has Noak done other than spend a bunch of money? Why do I get a sense that a bunch of people on here are being placed here by John?

you did hear that we had a surplus and also that all departments always come in under Budget, right..so what did noak spend a bunch of money on ? and before you again refer to village hall, get educated how this was funded

The village has had surpluses for years and the current surplus isn't what it was 6 years ago and has been diminishing since. I don't think I've supported anyone so not sure why anyone would assume that I am being paid by anyone. I have never referred to village hall and if anything gives me a cause for concern it's the new building downtown. And before you suggest that it's being built with TIF funds you might want to educate yourself on how that is being funded.

Look, you guys all talk about how much John has brought to the community but talk to someone on planning and zoning and ask them how many meetings have been canceled because there is nothing to discuss. It can't go both ways.

At this point I don't support any of them but it kills me how people blindly follow the status quo. My guess is you either have some skin in the game with John or you just care to ignore reality so you can feel better about the place you live.

I think that if anyone worth while was running against John that he'd be sent packing.

Dose-Have you been hiding under a rock for the past few years? I'm getting the sense that you don't even live in our town. What is your huge issue with the way Romeoville is currently being run? Which other candidate will do a better job than Noak? Have there not been major improvements to the town as of late? You keep brushing over all the positives that have occurred and instead focus on unproven, generalized accusations that people are spouting off (usually with horrid grammatical errors, incomplete sentences, and a general feeling of drunken rambling) in these forums . Then, you try to instill in us readers that "uh oh everyone...this is something to think about. This is the important stuff. This is something I'd like to know more about." Then, once you inquire further into the allegations...NOBODY responds to you with factual evidence or coherent information supporting their original rambling post! This should tell you something. You're a dose of negativity, not reality. Quit with the negativity until you can bring some actual "reality" to the table.

Clearly you either are Carl or are drinking from the Carl Koolaid dispenser. Sounds like your playing all the sides off of each other. You still have no clue what you are talking about. You can't compare the national expansion years to the second greatest national economic downturn in our history. Yes there was a lot of expansion everywhere during the later 90's early 00's, but that was EVERYWHERE. A trained chimp could have developed things in those times. It is completely different to say that you have brought development during a national economic downturn and it is far more impressive. Take a look around us, Romeoville is beating out almost all of its neighbors for new development. You are just plain clueless.

I agree with you "Citizens against Chief" but then why would it be a good idea for the village to fund additional expansion in an economy like this?

I don't argue that the village isn't trying to do a bunch of things but my concern is that anything you do has a cost associated with it and at some point that bill comes due.

And to respond to Rock, I most certainly live in town and I would suggest that people not responding isn't due to negativity but lack of evidence to the contrary. And I won't even justify your drunken rambling comment, maybe if you educated yourself, you would understand some of the things I am talking about.

I am concerned. I am concerned at the pace at which the village is spending in this economic environment. I am concerned that we have the highest sales tax rates outside of Cook County. I am concerned that someday we have to pay this bill and at that point whoever is in office will be long gone and have little concern for those of us that are here left to figure out how to dig ourselves out from under it.

That's all, that is why I don't endorse anyone because this isn't about the politicians it is about the citizens educating themselves about what the impact is of decisions that our elected officials are making for us, local, county, state and federal.

The problem is that you seem to make broad based assumptions without any of your own evidence to back it up. What is the village doing that your worried about? Why haven't you asked the village about your concerns.
The village hasn't borrowed for anything significant in years. Most of the current projects in town are either funded by grants or the TIF districts or normal yearly budgeted items. The TIF isn't funded by any residential taxes and is well financed and stable. So what you are trying to sell everyone isn't accurate. And those are facts.

The proposed downtown development, while being touted as being funded by TIF dollars, is actually going to be funded by a General Obligation bond and not TIF funds. That is accurate, that is available on the village's web site.

General Obligation bonds are bonds that are secured by the revenues of the village no matter where they are derived.

I would like to hear how any of that is inaccurate.

This has been explained to you several times by different posters on this and other threads already.

Virtually ALL bonds are issued as general obligation bonds because it is FAR cheaper to do it that way. That doesn't mean that the village isn't using the TIF its just getting a cheaper rate. You are such an IDIOT or you just don't care to admit the truth. Either way you are completely off base on this issue. Currently funding from the TIF more than covers the cost of the downtown projects and that is what the TIF and the money is there for in the first place. TIF funding is intended for exactly what the village is doing and can't be used for other things. PERIOD. Stop trying to mislead people!

What's the big deal? Is it better for Romeoville to continue having vacant buildings in Spartan Square that are producing ZERO revenue for the village...or to spend money fixing up the area and drawing people back to "old" Romeoville? There's nothing wrong with a Mayor spending our $$ to beautify our town and attract more people to it...with the ultimate goal of attracting more revenue as well.

Spartacus, this is not true, "Virtually ALL bonds are issued as general obligation bonds because it is FAR cheaper to do it that way. Go look up the definition of a general obligation bond. Yes, the offer a lower yield but you receive a lower yield because you put all assets up against the loan. Don't try to sugar coat it. I am not the one who is misunderstanding or misleading anyone. If you don't believe me, maybe I'll just get everything together and bring it to the people. Not on this website but out in the public arena so someone can attempt to publicly refute this. Because if they do, they either don't understand what they are doing or are willingly being deceitful about what it is they are doing.

This is the same thing I have stated before and here is where everyone seems to have no response.

I am all for a nice downtown, I just prefer that the risk be isolated to that TIF district.

There have been multiple articles in the Tribune discussing municipalities that have done the exact same thing and the outcome is a municipality that is forever strapped for cash because they levered up big on projects exactly like this.

You may enjoy rewriting history, I however, do not.
