My heart goes out to his family and friends. I'm sure they were all just planning on having some family fun time Saturday like so many of us who signed up for that ride. There are many times when just hop on my bike with no helmet and head out for a ride. For so many of us older riders who grew up riding or bikes all over the place with no helmets because there was no such thing back in the day. Now that there are so many distracted drivers on the road we should probably rethink our choices. Even on the paved biking trails you just never know when an animal, walnut, broken glass or some other obstacle might suddenly show up in your path. I for one will be wearing my helmet all the time now even on the short rides.
