Ummm I dont think he was being judgmental in that remark. He was saying only that it is not mans place to judge, but God's.

My husband and I saw Steve today in Joliet. We bought him lunch and talked a bit with him. Steve is a very kind person and Loves the Lord with all his heart!
He shared with us that the Lord always sends caring people his way and takes care of him. His dog,Gabby has health issues, but is well taken care of, comfortable and fed properly.
Steve seems healthy, mentally, physically and spiritually!
There, by the Grace of God go I!
Please keep Steve and Gabby in your prayers!

"God helps those who help themselves". Does that mean God doesn't help those who don't help themselves? Why don't we be real here and keep God out of this. He either helps himself or he doesn't. There is no "God" monitoring his well being Mike and helping out. You have the right to believe whatever you want but to me that's absolutely ridiculous.

Preacher Steve is an ordained minister. He had a house, job and a wife. I can't remember how, but he lost it all. I think either his wife died or she left, he lost his job then his house. He is a kind man, who walks by God's ways, and when he prays for you things will happen. He's not a drug addict, and never was. He doesn't even really drink. He's not a beggar, and to the one who said that he is going to teach him to beg next week, you can go to hell. To the others who say he's mentally ill and not trying, you can too. Just because most people live the same way, does not mean all people have to live the same way. Most of the time you can't even tell when people are homeless. You ever see people walking with book bags? A good amount of them are homeless. They just have less things. He has two carts of stuff, and an old dog. She is very loved, and very well taken care of. Don't think you are better because you live differently. He's better than you by far. God judges his heart, I like that one, common sense.

Steve Sherwood the homeless man with the long bicycle was emplo9yed by joliet Equipment Corp. about 20 years ago,, I was employed there also. I knew Steve to be a quiet, polite man. Jack Keck who was the owner of Joliet Equipment and Steve's boss, passed away, his funeral was yesterday, Steve came in and knelt down by the casket and prayed, got up and greeted Bill Keck, Jack's brother and left. It was obvious he was a homeless man, still keeping up with what is going on and caring for others. God Bless you Steve, I think people should have more compassion for homeless people, you do not know what their story is.

It's a few days before Christmas and my 8 year old daughter and I were out shopping today. When Steve pulled into the lot my daughter immediately got her chance to meet this homeless bike man as she's called him for years. My daughter would often pray for him at bed time even though she never met or spoke to him. Today she got to! She had seen him coming and she asked me if I had money so she could give him a Christmas gift. She rolled her window down and waved to him. He came over and said merry Christmas to her as she handed him the money. He looked to me almost for permission to take it from her. I told him that she was excited to see him and offer him this gift. He leaned on my window and we talked with him. We decided to get out and talk more with him. He's a gentle spoken and kind hearted man. Shaking my hand and my daughter's too. He asked her if she knew what Christmas was all about. I was proud she knew and he was very happy that we had the same Christian view of the meaning of Christmas. We talked a bit about his dog, it's a new one. A little white dog, very tiny. And after a few more minutes we exchanged hand shakes and Christmas wishes for those who need to understand the meaning of Christ in Christmas.
I was humbled, he is a good man. After reading all this banter about this man on this posting and others it's not about his religion you should argue...... He is doing good to others no matter what God he believes in. If you do or don't that's up to you but this guy is just a genuinely good person. He just happens to also love the Lord. I am thankful for that.

Well said and a very nice share. Pretty amazing all the stuff he has amassed over the years. I respect his wishes but there has to be a little mental instability in his life. Still, I have helped in his journey several times. And yes. That dig is tiny. Lol

He had a wife (who left him) and a job at one point. He didn't have a house, the house he lived in for years was his sister's, she eventually had to sell it for financial reasons (she lived elsewhere). He lived in the old YMCA at one point, and in a couple shelters. For a few years after his wife left he stayed with siblings, he chose to leave. He had a trailer at one point. He was ordained online, one of those websites that ordains anyone for free I believe.

He has issues, I don't feel comfortable going farther into it than that. His family appreciates that people look out for him. It's frustrating that after Gabby died somehow he got another dog, as this keeps him out of housing. It's frustrating that he seems to think it's his life's purpose to be homeless, especially when the weather is so cold. If you see him please be kind. Keep in mind that there are countless homeless people you never see, so donating your time or money to local shelters is really the best way to help.

My husband and I met Steve and Misty (his little white dog) today. What a kind and gentle man. I just had to have my husband pull over so I could tell Steve how impressive I thought his long bike was. He has put a lot of work into it, and I wanted him to know that I thought it was beautiful! He thanked me for admiring his hard work on it.
We shared some small talk about what a beautiful day it was finally and then some words about Jesus !(which we didn't mind at all)
He asked if we had seen the news, because he had overheard someone say that North and South Korea were launching missles at each other. My husband told him that yes he had heard that on the news this morning. We all agreed how sad this is, and that we all hope and pray that it will end soon.
Before we left Steve, I asked him what his name was and he told me is was Steve and then told me that the cute little white dog that was peeking out of his jacket was Misty. We wished each each other a blessed day and went our separate ways.
My husband and I drove several miles out of town and out of nowhere I told my husband that I decided that I wanted a double stack from Wendy's and to please turn around and go back. My husband thought it was strange of me to ask to turn around and drive all the way back instead of stopping at the next burger place we came across but, he turned around. When we got to Wendy's I told him I wanted 4 double stacks. One for my husband ,one for me , one for Steve and one for Misty!! My husband said we don't even know where he is .. I said, well we are going to find him!! and we did!!! We pulled up behind the Walgreens and Steve was walking Misty, he was surprised to see us again and asked if everything was alright. I said yes everything was fine and that when we were talking earlier Misty happened to mention to me that she was craving a burger so I brought one for each of them! Steve thanked me and told me what a kind thing that was for me to do. I told them goodbye once again and we wished each other a blessed day. I have been wondering all afternoon about them and decided to do a search and found this post. I just had to chime in and say that from now on anytime I am in Joliet I will make it a point to try and find Steve and his sidekick Misty and bring them a bite to eat. The next time I see him I hope to be able to sit down and spend some time talking to him. He seems like such a nice, kind, gentle God loving man. The world is better, because of people like Steve, He isn't out to hurt anyone he isn't looking for a hand-out, He just wants to spread God's word and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Please be kind to him if you see them. They will be in my thoughts and my prayers and I ask you please join me in keeping them in your thoughts and your prayers! I wish I could help him more (or more often) but I live in Kankakee and don't get to Joliet often.

YOu are Great people!!! I tell people all the time i think there is something about steve! Heaven sent! He is a Angel! I had a dream and it was the the Church isnt where i should go to be forgivin for my sins but to go to him! He has a gift and that he will free me of all my sins! I come from the Ghetto and never new what it was like to be a great person and to help others! Then Bam i wake up feeling refreshed and clean minded! I no longer smoke weed, talk with ignorance, selfish, and so on i feel like Jesus has blessed me but im not done yet. The craziest part is i havent had a dream period in over 10 years... and my first good dream was of Jesus and this man! i am really scared and should be as i fear god! but this is a sign of end times and this man may be from God to warn use of his coming! God Bless all of you please find him and talk to him!
