THAT was THE most shamefully cheesy parade I have ever seen in my life!

First of all, when you think "parade", you think "floats" and there was Not ONE decorated float!?!?

Too many large gaps where people thought it was over and began to leave (They should of just left anyway, there really wasn't much else to miss).

Some dance/performing group from HARVEY, IL?? Harvey isn't even anywhere NEAR the Canal NOR Lockport, WTF!?!? Also some other business'/groups that were NOT from near the Canal NOR Lockport.

And since WHEN is it a good idea to throw frozen freezer pops into the crowds? You're lucky nobody got thwacked in the face or head with those things!

NUMEROUS businesses here in Lockport weren't even AWARE of the parade, it maybe would of been nice had there been more actual LOCKPORT business' or business' from along the CANAL involved....maybe THEY would of had actual decorated floats!

Whomever coordinated this so-called "parade" should be fired!!

Canal Days has been on Father's Day weekend forever. Businesses in town make the choice to attend or not attend.

Floats? Have you ever tried to get a few people to volunteer to do anything? Then agree on anything. Where exactly would people get the flat bed trailers for the float? There aren't too many farms in the area anymore.

Just how many marching bands are there anymore? Not one grade school in the area has a marching band anymore.

Businesses in town that didn't know there was a parade? Who are you crapping? Businesses didn't participate because they chose to not participate. Their lack of participation had NOTHING to do with the organizers of the parade.

I've got a great idea for you. Just email the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor or the City Administrator and tell them that you will volunteer to organize next year's event. Let them know that you know everything there is to know to have a successful event.

How much to you want to bet that you don't have the balls to get involved? Don't worry, I win because I know you won't do a damn thing.

If you were that unhappy about this year's Old Canal Days parade on Friday evening, you should demand that the Old Canal Days Committee give you a complete refund on the admission that you paid to view their parade. Just tell them that you didn't get your money's worth.

well said, the other poster is just a bellyacher. I mean who has a bad time at a parade; only someone who started with a bad attitude.
There were large signs posted on state street about the parade. how could a business owner drive to work and not see them? I think this poster just makes things up thinking it supports his/her case when it just makes them look like a whiner....

The parade is run by volunteers. Put up or shut up. Get on a committee and help out next year or stfu.

Criticism means something only when accompanied with some creative and viable solutions.

So why not volunteer to coordinate it next year Helen?

Just to let you folks know why the parade was so pathetic this year. The Chamber hired an outside firm to run canal days, again wasting chamber money. They were charging upwards of $100 to businesses to get in the parade, which included a chamber membership. Volunteers used to run canal days for 36 years, which was taken away from them 3 years ago so the chamber could turn it into a disaster. A city council member, who is also the chamber president, made this happen so the chamber can start paying off the $120,000 debt they incurred at last year's Logjam. If you want a great canal days, demand the city returns the running of it to the volunteers. Also, there are float companies you can rent a float from, which was done in years past.

Thanks for the information Kelly. You know, if you hadn't created the dog and pony show that resulted in your embarrassing loss then things might have been a little more organized.

Kelly, do you remember when you created a fake crisis? Do you remember how you held Canal Days hostage for four months?

Kelly, I know it's impossible for you to believe that had you not used Canal Days as a pawn in your flawed campaign things might have gone just a little bit better.

Kelly, I didn't see you at Canal Days. I didn't see you shaking hands and tossing candy to the kids. I didn't see you listening to the bands. I didn't see you checking out the vendors on State Street. I didn't see you volunteering your time to make Canal Days a success.

Where the heck were you and your useless side kick 4th Ward Mary? I didn't see her anywhere near downtown either.

By the way, the Chamber did an excellent job with Canal Days. The parade was fun. I was with my grandkids at 10th and State. They had a great time and got a lot of candy.

The event was an absolute joke. Anyone that says they had a good time is full of it. Boring, unorganized, useless waste of my valuable time. Most of the kids hated it too...

Sorry to hear it was not great. Maybe some advice from successful events like the Lilac parade or other still strong civic operations. I noticed years ago that most participating businesses just tossed a convertible out there and threw candy/flyers at the crowd. You knew then people would soon become disinterested. Get some outside advice...maybe these things are just impossible to pull off anymore.
