Convicted rapist arrested in Naperville found dead in Statevill...

Tribune reporter A convicted rapist killed himself in prison after being arrested by Naperville police for allegedly trying to lure a teenage girl to meet him for sex, prison officials say.

Halstead was paroled from prison in December after serving roughly half of a 45-year prison sentence he received in 1986 for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl and for shooting her father.

So in other words had he not been paroled none of this would have happened. I think maybe the parole board members should spend a few years at Joliet getting their butts adjusted so next time they will think with their brains.

keep your kids off the internet unless you are in the room or smart enough to read there correspondence. More rapes and killing will be avoided with a little common sense. Lucky for this girl that her parents were alert. Good job.

I can't believe the hate that fills the hearts of people who have not even been touched by this persons crimes. Maybe if he had received therapy instead of just being locked up for 20 some years this might not have happened.

Don't blame this release on a parole board. This creepo was automatically released after doing half his time because of the law then in effect in 1986. Had he been convicted now, he would have had to do 85% of his time under the "Truth in Sentencing" laws. Saying that, I wish he had done this finally honorable thing back in 1985 before he harmed that poor child and her dad. No tears shed here.

Therapy? Are you kidding me? Spend my taxpayer dollars on support for the victims, not the criminals. They can rot in jail for a lifetime for all I care.

I don't have to have been "touched" by the criminal to have 100% support for the victim.

Do you people realize that I had to find out my father passed away by reading this crap. My father had a lot of issues to deal with in life and though he was sick mentally, you should respect that there are family and friends of this person trying to bury him in peace. I am reporting all of you.

Tax Dollars saved...someone else in prison would've lent him a hand, if he didn't do it himself, anyway....they don't take too kindly to men having issues of his magnitude....
