There is politics in high school sports, period. It is especially bad at one of our local schools. Which one is pretty darn obvious.

Although I will agree with you, West does have an awesome principal.

This has to be a joke...right? "If you give opportunity to anyone they will shine"???? No, not everybody shines. There are kids with talent that perform and those that do not. The kids that play at Central and West are the ones that deserve to...because they are better than the rest at their positions. Not rocket science. The teams/coaches want to win more than they want to "please" people. Therefore they play the best kids that give them the best chance to win.

I competed Div.I in my sport, so you don't need to educate me on that (but thanks..). There are very few college programs that can say they bring in enough revenue to cover the cost of their program, much less high school (look it up). Football programs cost a lot of $$$. I don't argue with you that school spirit naturally centers around a school's football team, of course that's a given. It's just aggravating for the kids in other sports who knock themselves out for little recognition, put yourself in their shoes. My oldest graduated from West (went to Central too) and I now have another kid at West. There are a lot of kids over there that feel this way, they're just afraid to speak up out of fear of reprisal from the status quo. Central has a more well-rounded athletic program, maybe the grass just looks greener to you when you look West...
You could be right, I don't spend my time at West. But the indviduals who run the place have a lot to be desired. And I do agree with you about other programs. It just kills me to look out at the stadium during a varsity soccer game and see 20 people there. And it's the number one sport in the world.

First off a lot of you are wrong. Football is more then a game. It is a showcase of the school in general. It shows off not only football, but the cheerleaders, poms, band, school facilities, athletic boosters, etc... Football is by far and away the most popular sport in the USA this isn't Europe, it's America where soccer is maybe number 6 in popularity.

But I'll add this West and Central cares about more then football, and school spirit is high in a lot of sports. I have seen great crowds at boys basketball games, girls volleyball games, and others at all the LWs in the past few years. Kids feeling afraid to bring that up are not scared of the AD, they are afraid that kids that work to get stronger and faster will bump them in the hall, which they wouldn't anyways. Kids on the bowling team, soccer, etc should learn now life isn't fair, the quicker the better. In high school sports football and basketball take the cake. Even baseball gets bad crowds.

I thought the Freshman played well. In a few years, he will be the only kid in the area playing big time football. Notre Dame, Michigan, etc.
Athletics in schools goes in waves. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. Lately, Central has been the doormat of the conference. It's not necessarily the coaching, but the athletes they have had during those particular years. It happens at every school. Right now, Central's Freshman seem to be a good group at football. The Sophomores? Not so good? The upper classman, well, they are done after tonight! In a couple of years, Central could be the better team. Everyone has interest in West because it is New, after this season, everyone will want to be a West. I have been to most games and I haven't seen any talent at the Freshman level at West. So in few years, it will be the Central bandwagon.

Watching the Jr. Knights and Jr. Warrior teams, the LW youth football programs have some great talent coming up- especially on the Jr. Knights Varsity and JV teams. The Varsity team is stacked with studs, and the JV team has some talent also- a couple of 7th graders that stand out and even 2 or 3 6th graders on that team that play both ways. Jr. Warriors have just an equally talented group of boys coming up through the ranks. The future of LW football looks very bright for LWC and LWW.

The Lightway A (13 year olds under 120 lbs) kicker for the Mustangs kicked a 38 yard field goal last week in wet conditions. I think he goes to Liberty; so he'll probably go to west. With area teams pretty evenly matched in many of the games a kicker like that can be a difference maker.

I have two kids at West in different sports. All of the sports at West are supported equally by the school.
Throughout the country, football games have the most spectators. Is it the AD's fault or the local paper's fault that the tennis team doesn't get as much press ?
Show up and support your kids and don't worry about everyone else.
How can anyone complain about a school like West that has possibly the best facilities of any high school in the country ?

I really am excited about the future of both school football teams! As far as who has better programs... The NLYFA or the Mustangs, who cares because all these boys will be playing TOGETHER at the next level. Each team will have a better team than the other every year. Last year it was the Mustangs that were great and this year it is the NLFYA varsity jr. Knights, also the JV jr. Knights and the super and lightweight jr warriors who are very good. I am very pleased that these dads who put a lot of time in coaching in both leagues are unselfish and care about developing these boys. GO NEW LENOX mustangs, jr knights and jr warriors! Good luck to every player and coach and thank you ffor being a great representation of New Lenox! Also go Warriors and Knights at the high school level!

Football season is around the corner and I cannot wait to see LW West next season. It sounds they will be starting a talented Sophomore QB to lead them to a strong year.

Yes! Should be a great year. It sounds like that Dino kid is ready to take the wheel and lead the offense. Also some good running backs waiting in the wings for their time to shine.

Key will be o-line and it sounds like it will be a good one. But the up and coming seniors better be prepared to sit the bench if they don't change their cocky attitudes from what I heard. Coach Ernst wasn't to happy with his junior class at the end of last year.

I agree. It's tough on a Sophmore, but I watched him play last year before the Varsity games and he handled himself just fine!

The 2014 LWW class is a group with not only athletic ability but academic prowess. They are stand up kids on and off their respective fields. They will be hard to replace. I am sure the next class will stand up and show the same determination to win and carry on West Side Pride!
