Former NFL Star

Palatine, IL

#1 Jul 10, 2013
I am a former NFL star who now lives in this area.

I enjoy NFL stardom from my former NFL days in NL.

Does anyone have any advice on the QT for a former NFL star in NL?

Did anyone notice that a Freshman QB was the starter last week for Central? That's really awesome! I know West has a great Freshman who is playing up on the Soph level who has thrown 12 TD's in 4 games. It will be fun to watch these two in a couple of years. Good luck this weekend

who cares. if you research the player he is probably a politically connected parents son.

you are correct. Unfortunately this is how high school and many other organized sports are. As far as I see it all kids that give their efforts on a team that are all awesome. If you took ten kids and worked with them as a Qb and worked as hard with all of them as much as the few team Qbs. They would all be great but as the story goes the only great one on a team I guess is the Quaterback. Good for these kids but they are far from the best and as far as I can see the biggest star I know is the Sun and that's not man made so. Yes politics will always be the deciding factor but don't get discouraged.

Yes these players are very good. We have kids that play for central and they love it on the other hand we know people who have kids on west and the kids over there don't even get a chance to play. They don't shift there players in and out like the central coaches do. Shame on you LW West. Glad our kids don't go there.

We are glad they don't go to West as well- because then we would have to put up with you. Many players were rotated in and out last night on LWW varsity.

last time I checked LWW was 4-1 and LWC was 2-3. Sometimes you rotate a lot of kids in when...
A. The Coaches don't know what they are doing and can't evaluate talent.
B. There is not a lot of talent to begin with so out of desperation you rotate kids in to see if any of them can do anything.
C. See A or B
Not saying that is the situation at LWC.... but it might explain the difference in rotations between the two NL high school football programs.

Who cares about any of this?! They're just kids who most of will never step on a football field again after high school! Let them enjoy themselves, it's just a sport. There are a lot bigger things going on in this world you know....

You obviously never stepped foot on a football field yourself. A varsity coach bringing up a player from the freshman team is ignorant. I happen to know both of these boys and they are just Ok. Shows either the Central team just plain sucks, or the coaches are just plain morons. Venerable is a complete dumb ass! So what he took some whatever team to a championship with some other old whoever, you can tell by watching the team play he's a moron. There are a lot of talented kids at central, but the coaches are too stupid to recognize them. The whole coaching staff from the fresh to varsity have to go. Most of them sucked when they played or never even played at all! No motivation, who wants to play their ass off for some old washed up jerk, or some skinny little pencil pushers...

I thought the Freshman played well. In a few years, he will be the only kid in the area playing big time football. Notre Dame, Michigan, etc.

I think what Carl is saying is that there are many good players on both west ant central and to pick and choose who they want to play key positions or all positions is slighting all other players on all of these teams. If you give opportunity to anyone they will shine but it is very unfortunate that as usual politics always ruin it for the rest. There are many good players on all of these teams but because they are not considered popular by others they will be diamonds in the rough. Hopefully central and west coaches wake up. Many don't have parents kissing up to the coaches and that is another problem in itself.

This has to be a joke...right? "If you give opportunity to anyone they will shine"???? No, not everybody shines. There are kids with talent that perform and those that do not. The kids that play at Central and West are the ones that deserve to...because they are better than the rest at their positions. Not rocket science. The teams/coaches want to win more than they want to "please" people. Therefore they play the best kids that give them the best chance to win.

Agree! Because once these kids enter high school and are no longer playing youth sports (such as football, baseball, softball) there is no more daddy ball. Coaches don't give a darn about the parents, they try and keep their distance as much as possible.

Being a parent of a former Central football player that was told by a few professional arena players that he was very talented & would go far but never got the chance because we aren't politically connected at the school, I beg to differ. I'm not sure if the high school coaches have any idea what talent is!

You ignorance is showing. Please make sure you check Venerable's history prior to making such a horrible statement. My suggestion is that you think before you right. You are way tooooo emotional my friend. Perhaps therapy?

To be honest, I think Central has had a good season and has shown real signs of improvement this year. I bet you will be talking about a playoff team once again in the coming years as the whole program has stepped up. Just my opinion.

And YOU know what talent is? Your questioning it here, on Topix? Now that's a laugh.

Unfortunately, even though West is a decent team, it's the only sport that is fully supported at that school by the Athletic Director. His son is on the team and he, his team and friends of his get preferential treatment in the form of awards and status.(JKB award, cough, cough...) So many kids there that deserve better but get ignored. My kid and their teammates are actually getting kind of sick of the nepotism at their school, their sport could win state and the AD would just be like "meh" Softball and Boys Soccer teams are the best teams at West right now but you wouldn't know it, all the school spirit is directed at football. Just the truth..

Unfortunately my friend, thats the way it is at the high school level and college level. Football brings in the money. As far as the AD at West goes, I think your wrong a bit. My son graduated from Central two years ago and I have another boy who is a senior now, and I wish we had your AD at West and the Principle at West back at Central. And I'll just leave it at that.

I competed Div.I in my sport, so you don't need to educate me on that (but thanks..). There are very few college programs that can say they bring in enough revenue to cover the cost of their program, much less high school (look it up). Football programs cost a lot of $$$. I don't argue with you that school spirit naturally centers around a school's football team, of course that's a given. It's just aggravating for the kids in other sports who knock themselves out for little recognition, put yourself in their shoes. My oldest graduated from West (went to Central too) and I now have another kid at West. There are a lot of kids over there that feel this way, they're just afraid to speak up out of fear of reprisal from the status quo. Central has a more well-rounded athletic program, maybe the grass just looks greener to you when you look West...
