Does anyone know why tax payers are paying over 15 thousand to decide who should be chief of police, when we have one of the best in the area?

We don't have one of the best in the area. Our police department sux. Turner wants that guy to be chief, so he must be bad.

Hey, Lucy oops I mean Jim Miles stop being Turdners puppet and think for yourself for once. You shouldn't be an Aux. Officer and are only allowed to be because your relative Jimmy Joe saved your A$$ years ago and only took your gun away for a short time. Just because you're Aux. Doesn't mean you know anything about actual police work or the day to day proceedings it takes to be chief. Just because you live 2 houses from Turdner doesn't mean you know who should be chief either. Maybe every once in a while the city should spend money on making sure the right person gets the job before giving it to them. If you never look at what else there is you end up with the same results and maybe some people in this city want more for it. If they choose the acting chief then fine but explorer all options before jumping in with both feet

The good ole boy school is gone Miles. How do you know you have the best unless you compare hime against others. Yes he can do the job but does that mean he's the best person for the job? Have a little faith and let the powers to be handle it without any interference from your neighbor Turner or you.

Who said it was $15k? I watch the meetings and don't recall hearing that.

That sounds like a realistic price so it may be true, I just did t know.

The city administrator will select the new police chief candidate, the mayor will make the appointment, and the majority of the city council will vote to approve the appointment and hiring of the new police chief. If Turner and Marynowski don't like the selected candidate, they have the option of voting NO. Until then, what they think doesn't matter.

I see 2 Moose members who are also neighbors team up and write the Legend. Then the ring leader Turner ends his letter by saying we need to get the politicians out of the chief selection process. We'll then Mr. Turner get out and stop trying to do so through the paper and getting others to help you. I see the old you is starting to creep back out again. This all comes down to what ever Colarelli wants Marynowski and you will choose the opposite. You lost the mayoral election so let the mayor handle it his way.

I think this Lockport Department has been pretty decent for a small town group. When money gets tight you see law enforcement in general do goofy things such as seatbelt checkpoints and the like. They once talked of portable scales and truck weight training for our officers. Protecting our roadways makes sense and now with increasing big boxes and warehouses lets enforce strongly. This should be something a new chief should be aware of. We have five guys running for Sheriff in Will County and not one understands the financial end of the department but neither did the previous four Sheriffs. That needs to change too.

One thing the officials in Lockport have no idea how to do is spend money wisely... no to mention lack of any kind of knowledge in community building.#fixdowntownlockport

If you are a Homer resident your towns politicians have outsourced every city service and maximize the tax dollar. The only deal they really got taken on was the American Water set up. The problem will come for Homer Glen when they are finally forced to provide real city services like the remainder of the counties cities. Wealthiest town in the county gets their police protection subsidized by every other county tax payer. They are smart and untrustworthy.

For somebody who thinks they are the smartest guy in the room how can you be so uneducated when it comes to "ISP's" in this day and age"

Just to help you out so that you can stop making a fool of yourself ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. The location listed under a persons screen name in most cases is not where that person is physically located when they are posting. You could be in the Starbucks on 159th street using their wireless and the ISP could say Arlington TX. It doesn't mean that person is in Arlington TX. I live in Lockport but the ISP on my posts usually says Homer Glen. That doesn't mean that I live in Homer Glen.

So the moral of the story is stop calling people out for not being from Lockport just because the ISP lists another town. Now go put your helmet back on so you don't hurt yourself.

Usually I'm noncommittal in this sort of issue, but I do like the idea of measuring candidates to make sure we have the best one.

After I read Turner's letter to the editor, I felt like there must be something greasy about the current chief because Turner wouldn't be so passionate about him unless he had something to gain. So I'm hoping the mayor picks someone from outside the police department.

The fair way is to give everybody a chance that is qualified and can do the job. Politicians who write letters always raise people's eyebrows as to what their intention is. It does more harm than good!

The only thing 'greasy' about this whole police chief issue is Mr.Pete Colarelli. This clown shows up at a rank and file union meeting when he has no business interjecting his BS. He is a sitting alderman and has no business sticking his greasy nose in a 'rank and file' meeting of police officers...whether he was once a policeman. He is not one now. If he wants a new chief let him wait until the current chief is presented or an 'outsider' is presented....then vote. Until then....HE SHOULD BUTT OUT. This guy seems to be the 'real' mayor not Streit. What a joke ! You want 'grease' that's Colarelli...hands down....and don't call me Turner..I'm not him. I could care less who the hell is Chief of Police in this town....it's the guys on the street that matter the most !

I am called a blowhard by some guy who uses the moniker Hardliner? Yeah I like to make a strong case sometimes. If you call being educated a blowhard I for one am not surprised after reading your attacks on people rather than debating. Back to school son.

So glad the Mayor is not cowing down to politicians who put their two cents in and then say that politicians should not enter into the discussion or decision. The Mayor and the entire city council will make the best decision based on qualifications and hopefully no ties to this city or aldermen. It should be an unbiased person leading this most important part of our city. Let everyone be vetted for it and see how it shakes out!And may be best person for the position win whomever it is.
