Wow, listen to the whole 911 shooting event. Watch the clock..... When seconds count, Police are 6 minutes away. This woman is a hero, thank God she had a gun!

These stories of heroics and lives being saved by law abiding gun owners happen EVERY day. Unfortunately our socialist media will not report them. Remember the goal of saving lives is not the goal? Its eventually complete gun confiscation leaving Americans defenceless against a tyrannical government. They could care less about who gets killed. Its their compassion that will lead fools into believing they care. Communism is sold as compassion for the masses. When in reality its the IRON FIST disguised as a white glove!

This is one of the reasons I'm glad to see that more women are getting trained to use firearms.
From the story it looks like this thug was not there to rob, but to do another type of harm.
One thing I would do though if I were the ladys husband would be to get her something a bit larger then a 38. The more stopping power the better.

How many accidental shootings are there a year? How many deaths? Guns should not be sold at gun shows without a check.

<quoted text>Neighbor, which is it? Would you rather pay more taxes to insure that there is a cop at every other street? I can remember countless rants you made public employees and their salaries. Not to mention that most police/fire have stopped or cut back hiring. So your shot at police "When seconds count, Police are 6 minutes away" is an expression used way to much by you and the ITG. Should we put firemen/medics at every corner in case of a fire/medical emergency?
So which is it? More police and fire, or bitch about the response times of a low staffed police/ fire dept?
So you don't think her having a gun saved her life?

Sally, Sally, Sally sweetheart. You have missed the point entirely again. That's ok sweetheart, I'll explain it all to you. In the 911 situation above, the wife was trained to shoot a 38, had the gun present in the home, and was prepared well in advance for an emergency. Turns out emergency's can happen in seconds. In the real world it takes Police minutes to arrive, many times quite awhile. In this case, about 6 minutes. It was all over way before they arrived sweetheart. The point is that this is a perfect real world example of a gun saving the lives of two kids & their moms, without the gun, they would be dead.(Still with me sweetheart? Pay attention). When seconds matter, Police are only minutes away. <This is not a slam on Police sweetheart. It's a valid reason to be prepared to protect your family in emergencys just like this one. <Get it? Got it? Good!

You are goofy! How can you misconstrue Neighbor's post like that? He said every "second" counts in a situation like that, not that the police were too slow in getting there. At least that is what I got out of his post. No one expects a police officer or firefighter to be perched on our doorstep just waiting for something to happen. His point was, without a gun this woman and her two children might have been injured or killed. Had she called 911 instead it might have been too late when they arrived. We have a right to protect ourselves from thugs and criminals who invade our private space. Whether that is in our home, our vehicle or on the street. Again, the police can not be there every second of every day to keep us out of harms way. You're just looking to argue with Neighbor because you don't like him. Grow up!

They are not. I go to gun shows. The transition is the same as a gun shop. Its the gun grabbers lying to justify their agenda with the uniformed public.

Absolutely I think it saved her, I am pro gun. However, I think that idiots on here (Neighbor, Unincorporated) put the blame on police for response time. But at the same time they bitch about public employees and their salaries. So which is it, more police/fire, or bitch about response times even though you support public employee cutbacks (hiring freeze). Neighbor is pretty good at talking out of both sides of his mouth. Either that or he forgets his opinion on subjects. Just as long as he can blame someone I guess.

Only eight days into 2013, Chicago is already on a grim pace to not only continue the bloody trend of an elevated homicide rate -- but to surpass it.

Where did I say anything about she should have not had a gun, fool? And If the phrase "When seconds count, Police are 6 minutes away." Isn't a jab at first responders, then you most definitely are a fool. My point was that if you are going to bitch about public employees and support cutbacks, you can't bitch about the increased response times. He used the phrase, I questioned him on it? Need a diagram fool?

That's terrific Four More Years! Only 17,000 accidental shootings?

There are over 6,000,000 car accidents in the USA every year, resulting in 3,000,000 injuries.

Seems like Obama shuld be taking away our cars? I mean, like Biden says, if Obama can save just one life, it would be worth it?

So do you think Obama wants to protect us, or just get our guns? Seems to me, if he was a protection zealot, he would go after cars not guns.

What do yu think?

Does the number of people driving cars, and the number of people using guns on a everyday basis factor into this. I know people love big numbers, but they have to be put into perspective.

And do accidental shootings include hunting trips with Dick Cheany?

Last I looked they keep adding new laws and enforcement tools to make it safer I.e red light cameras. I don't want to take away hunting and sport arms just assault rifles, large magazines. Kind of like not being able to drive my Indy car on I-80.
