I have heard rumors from my neighbors that teachers that have been at the school for a long time are leaving at the end of this school year, people are being fired on the spot, and aides are walking out. What is happening at this school? Should I be worried if this is all true? I have a child that will be attending Prairie next year as a 1st grader. From years past, my neighbors only spoke highly of Prairie but recently I am getting opposite reviews from them. Is this all because of the new principal that started this year at the school? Is this all true or only rumors?

Probably some of it is rumors. I can tell you I know someone whose kids went to Prairie and they were not impressed at all. The teachers were mean and some liked to humiliate the kids. I believe the one was in 3rd grade and she is gone which is a good thing for the kids. I can also tell you the principal there was once the asst. principal at the kindergarten centers. She is very good at her job and very good to the kids, at least she was in kindergarten. If she is firing teachers and aides you should be happy she is cleaning house. That school did not have a good reputation for a long time because of the former principal and the bullying tactics used by the teachers. Be happy she is bringing in fresh teachers. There were people on here a while back complaining about how their kids were being treated at lunch time by people on a power trip. Maybe she has cleaned house there too. There are also teachers who transfer within the district because they want to job share and not all the schools allow that. Prairie and Haines allow it so that could be another reason teachers are leaving. Your kids are in good hands with that principal. Trust her because if she is getting rid of teachers there are reasons for it.

Thank you "rumors" for your reply/answers. I guess I will have to wait and see when my child starts in the Fall and form my own opinion.

I'm not sure how it is now but years ago Ridge was the same way with the lunch police. It was absolutely ridiculous how those kids were treated by the principal, asst. principal and the nasty lunch ladies. No talking during lunch? Give me a break!

Send your children to private school. Public school has turned into a indoctrination laboratory for socialism and immorality.

I wish I could send them to a private school but money is tight - not that sending my children to a New Lenox Public School will be a walk in the park with the fees they charge.

Yes, your neighbors are right! My neighbors are talking about it also. Things are changing in the school district, and not for the better! I would be worried next year about your first grader. Leadership has been changed at that school and not for the better! Cleaning house? She's bringing in her friends and separating long time staff members from each other which makes for a very unhappy climate.

Prairie and Ridge suck. Good she is bringing about change from that hell school. Do not worry about your first grader. They are in good hands. There must be an unhappy bully teacher who is getting canned on here. JB is that you?

My youngest is finishing up at Prairie. First grade was fine, 2nd grade was dreadful, and 3rd grade has been wonderful. The old principal as the worst. I was very happy to hear she was leaving. I haven't had to deal personally with the new principal. She seems to have made some positive changes with a couple exceptions. I was very unhappy that she got rid of Mr. Mel. The kids loved him. I was very unhappy that she got let the nice lady in the office go and kept the unhappiest soul sucker there ever was, and her new pick-up/drop-off procedures make little to no sense. Other than that, my child has been much happier this year. I hope things don't change too much there, but so far so good. I will say I am happy to be working on my last pass through the elementary school system here. Things are just too sad for kids these days compared to when I was in school.

I have only had positive times at Nelson Prairie! I can only talk of the first grade teachers, but they are WONDERFUL! Yes, there have been changes. Change happens for a reason. I am a happy mom:)

It is not just Prairie. There are other schools in this district that are facing the same disruption or should I say corruption. Keep an eye on your kids next year, it is going to be a bumpy ride.
