Really Butchie? You want Lakewood Homes built here? I called Lakewood today and guess what? They still own the land. If Doyle gets in, don't be surprised if the talks start again. If you think property values are down and our taxes are high now, just wait. If Lakewood was built, 90% would be foreclosed and 10% would barely be making it. There were SSA taxes and other hidden costs associated with Lakewood. By the way, Minooka has a Lakewood Homes development and 80% of their police calls are to that one subdivision. Hope you speak Spanish and know Ebonics that way while shopping at Berkots you could understand what is being said about you and your white ass. You would be waiting in longer lines at Berkots because LINK cards would be handed to the cashier for every food purchase. If you don't believe me, I grew up in the hood, I've seen it all. I love Manhattan and what our potential is as a community. This town has great people and I am fortunate to have awesome neighbors. Just tired of the bashing. We all live here for a reason....better schools, less crime and we are all trying to live the American dream! Stop the hatin'! I have faith that the housing market will bounce back eventually. Just give it time!

Bounce back without Buzz building crapola. Any builder can erect quality housing if he wants. Remember, Lakewood wanted to annex ( the meeting)into the Village to get away with lower building standards. (the County has much stricter rules) But since the time of that episode Borgo has tightened the building standards. But, Lakewood has such a bad rap in the Chicagoland area I doubt if a Lakewood style community will ever get built again. The new standard will be single-family, fee simple, full basement, three-car garage housing. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't let Borgo fear monger you into a bad decision. But don't elect Doyle either.

Taken from the Orland Park Prairie 2/28/13 opprairie.com
The Great Exodus
United Van Lines just released the 36th annual study of customer migration patterns, Illinois has the second highest ration of people moving out...In the short and medium turn your take-home pay and the value of your home are going down. Do we want to keep electing politicians that increase taxes to spend more money so that they raise yet more money to get re-elected? Many, feeling out-numbered, have decided it's just easier to move.

Some simple questions to the mayoral candidates:

one) what happens when the garbage can lease / contract ends shortly?

tw0) will the land agreement (giveaway) with NL be vacated and the acreage returned to Manhattan?

three) when is it anticipated that the temporary fee charge on my utility will be dropped?

four) will you replace the village administrator? if so, what compels you to do so?

five) what is the current status of the Enbridge 7.5 million impact fee? How much capital is there left to operate with?

six) what can be done, if anything, as a village official to influence the local school board to control costs and operating expenses in an effort to reduce the burden this taxing body has on homeowners?

seven) why shoul I vote for you as opposed to the other two candidates?

People that bitch on here are cowards. They can hide behind their computers. I always tell people that I hear bitching to try and make a difference instead. If they don't like how things are SPEAK UP and GET INVOLVED!

I am a Manhattan resident of 20 yrs and grew up in New Lenox. I like Manhattan as it reminds me of New Lenox when I was growing up...pre big-box stores, strip malls, traffic and some outsiders' "vision" for what it has turned into. In reading comments about Manhattan it seems that everyone just wants to bitch about how much they hate it, can't wait to get out, it sucks, complain about the entire govermental system etc. etc. etc. I have a question for everyone with this mindset. If u don't like the past or current Manhattan, why the hell did u move your ass out here? I would believe common sense would imply u move to a community because U like it. Yet the attitude seems to be "I guess I'll move there if I have to but there are going to have to be some changes" Quit your bitching and move if U don't like it and don't ruin it for everyone that does not have "issues" with everything about the town. You'll end up moving in a few years anyway as your "vision" for Manhattan will turn it into the very place U moved here from....

Here is the bottom line. People moved to this sbox town because it was the safe direction. As certail 'folks' move south to keep their families safe Manhattan was the town to be in. You would find an affordable home and a quality school district. Once here you realize quickly that this town isn't quite as glamorous as it was once made out to be. You realize theres this group of people who will do anything to prevent this town from changing. You have a government thats tax happy. Add the two together you get a town that drives away commercial business and a government that needs the money to survive. Thus it comes out of the residents pockets. I personally hate this town and if it weren't for 2008 I would be long gone. I have been here almost 8 years and there have been no improvements in anything. Downtown looks like Mayberry. The shole businesses we had have closed up shop. I can't afford the loss on my house or I would be gone so fast. I know this is a good amount of people in town who feel the same way.

Doyle wrong mayor at right time to grow.
Borgo right mayor at wrong time to grow.
The economy has frozen all growth across the county, state, nation since 2007.
You made the right choice to move here. You would make a wrong choice to leave.

That must be you as you have provided us with your comment. Did you know that anyone in Manhattan with an IQ of 15 or higher is burned at the stake?
