I don't understand the point of your post. The OTB is closing. If this is true then it just means that the people of Lockport and the surrounding area don't gamble much on horses. Personally, I've only been in Fat Sams and Iron Horse three times. I went there to eat and it never occurred to me to place a bet. I was disappointed with the service and food the two times I went to Fat Sams and never went back. I went to Iron Horse about a month ago. Once again, the service was terrible and the food was average at best.

I probably won't ever go back.

I can think of two types of businesses to fill the void of this OTB and they will fit Lockports current and future demagraphics like a glove.

1) A Salvation Army Thrift Store

2.)An Army Navy Surplus Store.

The way things are going around here it won't be long before the only people living here will be uneducated unemployed wack jobs waiting for the end of the world and in the case of Lockport business that will be sooner rather than later.

Interesting perspective....My wife and I both have graduate degrees, good jobs and are pretty sane. I'm also not looking for the world to end as we're only 28 and 30, we're hoping to enjoy Lockport for years.

I think you're painting with an awful broad brush.

We are very far from elitist, but you are entitled to your opinion on an anonymous forum where I've said nothing wrong if that makes you feel better.

You should probably check your facts though because you're pretty much wrong across the board.

That is too funny! My wife and I are also degreed from fully accredited major universities and colleges. We are financially and mentally stable as well and gainfully employed. We moved here six years ago and love our home and neighborhood. Much to the chagrin of many of the rubes who post here daily we have no plans of leaving any time soon.

What you will learn after living here a few years is that while neighboring communities continue to develop their business and infrastructure Lockport stagnates and even moves backwards when you consider the buildings that have burned down in our downtown to be left as burnt out shells or vacant lots. Then one day it hits you that you spend all of your money outside of the very town you have invested in so heavily financially and emotionally for everything except groceries, auto parts and vacuum cleaner parts. That is when you get jaded and realize that as much as you love your home you probably bet on the wrong pony. Which is kind of funny as this thread was originally started about the OTB that just closed.

Six years after moving here I still can’t get over the fact that a town with commuter rail service to Chicago, water front property, two exits on a major toll way and a historic downtown continues to puke on its shoes when it comes to capitalizing on those built in advantages. But hey the “emperor’s new cloths” seems to be favorite reading around here, just don’t count on me being one of the rubes complimenting something that doesn’t exist.

Keep voting against necessary public infrastructure and watch your property values plummet. Get your priorities straight!

where did you get your degree ? Moron university ? Where is this so called waterfront property ? The canal , the creek that trickles thru dellwood park ,milne creek that flows into the great canal that our downtown is torn up from hurting downtown buisness even more . Hope you didn't pay to much for that higher education !

Sounds like someone is a bit jealous! Some people can't stand prosperity in a non-prosperous climate. All you have to do is not participate and get on with your life.

I have a fantastic job with a great salary ,hours most people would be jealous of and benefits that are far better than yours. I participate in this community quite frequently ! Probably more than you ! So don't judge me all I commented on was the ridiculous notion that lockport has waterfront property ! Get it right!
