There's a vote! December 19 at 7 p.m. at Elwood Village Hall

Please be advised that there will be a public hearing for the Planning & Zoning Committee to vote for the annexation and rezoning of agricultural land that NorthPoint has purchased. NorthPoint is intending to rezone this agricultural land to industrial so it can house Compass Business Park ... an intermodal center.

It will be more than three times larger than Midway and less than 1 mile from Wilson Creek elementary school. The impact on Manhattan is huge! It's so bad for our area that the Elwood school district has already issued a statement that they don't want it or any of the revenue they're promising. Consider the idea of a school system saying, "We don't want your money."

Also, half the land is in Manhattan, but over and over again Elwood has not shared information from Manhattan officials. Elwood has a Boundary Agreement with Manhattan but has been working with NorthPoint to annex land that is in Manhattan. In fact, Manhattan has only found out about this information because of area residents asking for it from Elwood because of the Freedom of Information Act.

Please show up! This is not about trucks or jobs. There are plenty of warehouse jobs here already and the current warehouses aren't even close to being full.

These outsiders from Kansas are trying to keep us from seeing what this is really about. They are coming here with high-powered lawyers to steal our way of life...to steal our towns. They have loopholes so they won't pay us a dime for decades. We'll be left with higher taxes (they want breaks so they won't pay taxes), increased crime, decreased property values, and more accidents because of bad roads that you, the taxpayer, will have to pay for.

Please come to the meeting. It's at 401 E. Mississippi Avenue in Elwood. Show the Planning & Zoning Committee that we don't want anymore growth that we cannot handle.

And remember, Manhattan has been left out of this deal at every point. Elwood and NorthPoint officials have orchestrated this for months (maybe years!) without involving Manhattan leadership even though more than HALF THE LAND IS IN MANHATTAN.

You've seen the signs around town. Read more and you'll see why people are so angry. Come to the meeting on December 19 and join the voices saying NO TO NORTHPOINT.

I don't think Manhattan residents realize the impact this will have on them. I have talked to a few and they were clueless. Two parents did not even know this monster will be a mile from the school. The village of Manhattan should get some information out and The elected officials should take a stand against this. No information on the village Facebook page. Some information on the community Facebook page but Seems like most people aren't interested. It will be too late to care when semis are turning around in the Wilson Creek parking lot.
If this project moves forward, we are putting our house on the market next month.

Keep talking to neighbors! Please! It is a monster. There's a petition to show that we don't want this development. Get the word out as much as possible.

Elwood is making their move ... as a Christmas present to us all. Their plan is to start construction and when the boundary agreement that they signed with Manhattan expires they'll annex more than a thousand acres. Manhattan should be furious! I know I am.

To have outsiders come here and destroy the area is one thing. To have Elwood's elected officials help them do it is beyond low.

The key points to remember?

- This development is more than three times larger than Midway airport.

- It will be less than a mile from Manhattan's grade school and traffic will impact all three schools in our town.

- NorthPoint is asking for tax breaks and will pay NO TAXES FOR DECADES.

- They are estimating it will bring 53,000 vehicles (trucks and cars) into the area every day.

- Taxpayers (that's you and me) will pay to fix our roads from those 53,000 daily vehicles.

- They are promising jobs, but those jobs will not be for folks in our area. There are already tons of warehouse jobs open and that number is growing! And the union jobs they're promising are only going to be for construction. After the buildings are built, the high-paying union jobs will move on. Us? We'll be left with a monster in our backyard.

And this is a scheming company. They came here thinking we were a bunch of idiots. They have ZERO respect for us. We only found out about this in June because someone leaked the information. Up to that point, everything had been hidden from the public. They're planning to rush this through all at once.

Why are the Manhattan trustees, mayor and school board mute? Heck the Joliet mayor publicly stated no interest. Stand up for your constituents and do what you were elected to do. There is plenty of information out there now for a decision to be made.

I sent an E-mail to ABC channel 7 I-Team investigates today about this NorthPoint development. Hopefully they do a special and expose this for what it really is.

She should have not even been brought to Manhattan. They didn't care for her in Channahon, She went to Romeoville where she was going to be let go there. Manhattan hired her. Real smart Watch out Elwood

The idiots in Elwood decided to extend her contract for another couple years. Shes got the mayor wrapped around her finger. They're just as bad as she is.

I would not doubt it's a done deal. Follow the money for all your answers. If need be, my house goes on the market January 1.

I also imagine these part time workers will want to live closer to their part time jobs. I wonder what town will get all the affordable housing?

Im in real estate development. This is a done deal. Manhattan is a disaster for the housing market with the foreclosures and near highest delinquency rate in the state.

I would sell before your little town gets absorbed by Joliet.

You're right. It's not needed. There are empty warehouses all around the area.

As the Elwood school board pointed out in their statement against NorthPoint, this development will eliminate future growth for Elwood. There will be nowhere for future development of homes. They projected that school enrollment would decline and eventually the schools will close. It will kill the town.

Why would the village even consider this? There are ZERO benefits. Come to the meeting at Elwood's village hall on December 19 at 7:00. NorthPoint's representatives will be there. Show them we're not the complacent idiots they think we are.

Lots of developments...

The Elwood mayor has resigned just days before the Planning and Zoning Committee vote. There are two empty seats on the village board and the remaining trustees will fill them.

Also, a lawsuit has been filed by a local farmer saying that their land was annexed illegally by Elwood.

All that and documents obtained using the Freedom of Information Act show that Elwood has been working closely WITH NorthPoint, leaving Manhattan out, which goes against our Boundary Agreement.

Are you really that clueless. You have to ask why you didn't know anything about this so late. Marion wasn't the only player here. If you believe she was the Al Capone of the mob than you really need to move because you haven't figured out the game at all. You have been played for longer than you think so smarten up. Your little town is no more.
