In the 13 states that saw their minimum wage rise on Jan. 1, 2014, job growth has been higher so far this year than in states where the minimum wage has stayed the same. Extreme pro-business interests often argue that raising the minimum wages will lead to job losses, but once again the evidence suggests otherwise. The Center for Economic and Policy Research looked closely at the data and found states that raised their minimum wage have seen an average of 0.99% while the static states saw only an increase of 0.68%. Of the 13 states, all but New Jersey saw employment gains and 9 of the 13 states are above the median state in job growth. 4 of the 13 states saw their minimum wage increase because of new legislkation, while the rest saw automatic increases related to inflation. the state sin question are: Arizona, Colorado, Conneticut, florida, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
I don't understand why the minimum isn't 100 dollars an hour then. Think of the job growth!

There is some validity to raising the wages, however there are two sides to the story. The American middle class grew and the nation prospered when workers began making a better wage. Tgis was due ro unuons, highways and immigrants. At this same time folks were embarrassed to take food stamps, aid, etc. Now many lazy people will just suxk at the govt nipple till its dry.

Give more money to the guy living check-to-check and what happens? He spends more (he may also save a little too). Spending more creates jobs. When a million people spend more, it has a significant effect on the economy.

Give more money to the guy who makes more than he can possibly spend and what happens? He just has more money. He doesn't spend any more. He doesn't buy any new products or go out to eat more...etc.

You could give more of your money to the lazy unproductive citizens in our society if you wish.

No one is entitled to anyone else's wealth. You want the government to confiscate wealth and redistribute it? That's what Obama is doing. The only difference is he wants to CONFISCATE all America's wealth and redistribute it throughout the world like he is doing. AMERICA is a horrible greedy nation to Obama. They stole all of the worlds rich's and Obama is determined to give them back. Obama is not a leader or a president, he is an ideology.

What's the matter with you? Do you realize to the super wealthy Kochs, Waltons, and Trumps you are one of the lazy unproductive citizens you are complaining about? You don't work any harder than most of the people working minimum wage. You are certainly not smarter. Yet you are at the very least able to make a livable wage driving a truck. That's a job an immigrant can do within a day of jumbing the border. I'm glad your employer is wealthy. I'm glad you can have a home and a little extra money to spend. You don't understand that in your twisted view your employer could use that same stupid line (You are not entitled to his wealth) when he replaces you with an employee who costs him less. I suppose you would be ok with that because your lips are always on the buttocks of those who are wealtheir than you.
This thread isn't about the people who don't work. It's about paying a living wage to the people that are working.

Absolutely, yet every one of the tea party guys here will immediately throw out a ridiculous statement such as " well then let's pay everybody 50 bucks an hour" or something along the same line. Some of them have done that already. Yet you won't see any of these guys complain about the CEO of MacDonald's or Walmart getting huge pay raises and outrageous bonuses. They all want pound on the little people. They refuse to see that bubble economics works (1940's,50's, 60's, and 70's) and that trickle down does not. It's really a shame.

Look patriot is the poster straight tea and the poster professor. He is a teamster union truck driver who made all his money thanks to union contracts. Now he wants to pretend that professor is retired and patriot is an attorney. Which we all know is untrue. Why because then he can push his twisted tea party bullshit and pretend he's not contributing to the union and therefore the Democratic Party. He is a fraud of the highest order. He got his but screw everyone else. Kind of reminds me of another rabid dog tea partier. They come on here and try to pump their regurgitated tea party crap. And even worse try to spread false panic about government control through the use of force. It's sad really how brainwashed these goofs have become. The worst part is that they don't even realize how much harm the tea party in general does to mainstream republican candidates. Sad and strange little creatures indeed. Oh and greetings from sunny conservative Scottsdale Arizona. Hehehe. Lol. That's is if Scottsdale is near berkots.

The pay is determined on the skill needed to do the job. It's also determined on the demand for the job. That's what you base salary on. You can wish to make $15 at your McDonalds job, but neither you or the position are worth that wage. Keep dreaming.

It's lucky for you and your family that you don't actually have to live by the simplistic drivel you spew about how pay is determined.
You can wish that I make $15 an hour and work at a fast food restaurant. It won't be true. You and the rest of the tea baggers show just how financially strapped you are when you think $15 an hour is a lot of money. Ask your employer what he thinks you are worth. Oh wait, that's never going to happen. You don't have the stones. You also know you wouldn't like the answer you get. Keep kicking on the working poor. You would be one of them if it weren't for others helping you out.

I'm self employed. I earn every dollar I make. I'm not interested in sharing it with those that refuse to stand on their own two feet. Let Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Feinstein, Durbin, etc, etc support them.

I am self employed as well and earn more than every dollar I make, but I still have the insight on where the real profits go. The wealthy (not you nor I) have and will continue to fund themselves and their bs agendas. Stand up for yourself, think for yourself, and realize where you are on this food chain.

P.s. It's at the bottom.

I'm sorry your business is not successful and your at the bottom. That's not the case for every business owner. Many business's are and have done well and the owners and investors are wealthy. That's what is so great about America. Everyone has an opportunity to become wealthy. You can't find this opportunity anywhere else in the world. Why you liberals knock it and are jealous of the successful is insane. You hate the successful wealthy.....yet you want their wealth? That's like a homeless person feeling entitled to move into your home and the government forces you to take them in ? You liberals don't possess any cognitive thinking skills.

In civilized nations pay is determined by the cost of living in the area, secondary is skill and demand. In all these nations costs of products are marginally more. pennies.

there has been massive income/wealth redistribution for the past 30 years, FROM the bottom TO the top. It's time to balance the scales. On one hand you complain about social welfare and on the other hand you oppose a living wage. You can't have both. I say!

the right wing myth that business owners are the job creators has been debunked. The consumers are the job creators.

It's 2014, time for working peoples wages to reflect that.

You are responsible for your own destiny. A living wage is what ever your earning potential is. When you accept a job for a wage you agree to it. If you feel your skills are worthy of more pay, you seek a higher skill level job which pays more. If you don't have any skills or education to earn more, who's fault is that ? The companies? Other working tax payers ? The wealthy ? It's your own fault. You need to accept that.

Losers hate winners. That's human nature. When someone works harder than you and has more, it's jealousy that you want what they have because you don't have it. That's liberalism. Losers!

This has to be one of the most self centered, asinine responses if seen yet. You say pay should be determined by the cost of living in an area and you know what I say? If you cannot afford it ,you do not buy it. If someone has things that you do not have, then don't be a sissy boy bitch and complain that you have been left out. Were you raised by parents that just bought you what ever you wanted? Did you ever hear of working hard to have what ever it is that you want. I came from nothing, single parent could not afford college and went out on my own and created my own success. Never once collected a dime of gov handouts and never complained. I was always happy for those who were successful and easy understood that if I wanted success I had to work hard for it. Your small liberal mentality is like a cancer in your skull which tells you, your owed something. These is no time to balance scales and redistribute wealth. The fact that you would say that tells of the sickness that dwells in a liberal mind. You people have been indoctrinated by your professors to believe this way. It's truly sad. I has nothing to do with being right wing. It has every thing to do with being a man and standing up for yourself and earning what it is you want in life and not blaming someone else for YOUR FAILURE. And lastly, leave GOD out of it. You cannot be a liberal Democrat and have faith in GOD. It's your party that is trying to remove GOD from all aspects of life I.e. School, public places, etc. your GOD is what successful have and that's the material world.thats why your a minnow not a shark.
