On February 15, 1934, Cinderella was produced, it being the animated movie adaptation of the Charles Perrault version of the French tale "Cendrillon".
Disney was a German-Irish native of Chicago.
For you Obama voters, the plot is as folows: after Cinderella’s father dies, her stepmother and stepsisters treat her like a servant girl.
With the help of a fairy godmother and her whimsical animal friends, Cinderella manages to go to a big ball, where she and Prince Charming fall in love.
It ain't Michelle and Barry!

On February 16, 1930, nylon was developed in the Du Pont labs from the research of American chemist Wallace Carothers, a native of Iowa.
The substance was from a synthetic silk that would be practical for everyday use. His research resulted in the invention of a number of new polyamides.
Nylon was difficult to work with because of its high melting point, but he chose this as the one to develop commercially. He selected Dr. George Graves to work with him on the project.
Eventually Graves replaced him as the leader of the project. Later, dozens of chemists and engineers worked on refining polyamide 6-6 into a hugely viable commercial product. It still is today.
