My husband and I found a house we REALLY like in Romeoville. It is on Fremont Street. Curb appeal is nice, but how is the area?

I'm pretty sure there was a shooting on Fremont a while back. I sure wouldn't buy there. Drive around tere in the summer when the thugs are out and there goes your curb appeal.

Just don't buy a house in Honeytree. I know this goes against my own best interest, but there is a very bad history with this subdivision. Just look at the current board.

I'm not sure where Fremont Street is in Romeoville. We have lived in Romeoville for nearly 10 years and are VERY happy! We have great neighbors that work hard and respect their property like we do. We haven't had any problems since moving here, and the shopping is wonderful!
Please keep in mind that these days bad can happen in any neighborhood. There is no such thing as "buying" your way to a better area---freaks are everywhere! Also, this forum can be pretty negative, so I wouldn't take the responses here too seriously. You can always call the police and ask about the location and if you have children, make sure to take a close look at the school report card! Best of luck!

People are being silly. That area should be fine. There's really no 'BAD' area in Romeoville. Even when people label it 'BAD', it's the weakest form of gang activity you can think of. If you are that concerned, best thing you can do is visit the house you are interested several times, at different times of the day, on a weekday, weeknight and on the weekend. It'll give you a good idea of what is going on in the neighborhood. Also, look at the curb appeal of the neighborhood itself. Are people taking care of their houses? Are they picking up their garbage? Etc. Etc.

'Weakest form of gang activity'? There isn't such a thing as 'weak gang activity'. All gang activity is a problem and it usually leads to bigger problems. It does, however, weaken our community.

Fremont is on the older side of town. You'll hear all kinds of stories about this part of the neighborhood. I've lived in the are for 17 years. Would I like to move? Yes. The neighborhood is changing for the worse. Lots of empty homes, cheap rehab rentals with the tenants to go with it. Not a lot of pride in the neighborhood anymore. The schools aren't the tops, not the worst, but not good. I believe Fremont is Irene King Elem and AVM Middle School. Good teachers held back by red tape. Do I feel safe? Not as much as I used to, but not enough to lock my doors and stay inside. Good luck to you.

I'm very familiar with that area and have been for over 30 years, don't kid yourself, its bad news. Buy at your own risk.
