Warning: Playing violent video games while intoxicated may result to having poor judgement, leading to physical bodily harm and in some cases death. Have stupid children at your own risk.

This is so tragic and also disgusting. You can't tell me that the two teenagers didn't realize that kicking and body slamming a 7 year old wouldn't harm the child. The Tribune's article title is irresponsible. If that were the case, then my brothers and I would have killed each other from watching the "violence" on Tom & Jerry or Bugs Bunny. But even we knew at a young age the things like that could seriously hurt someone.
I think there must be something darker going on in that household than simply saying that they were imitating a game.
That poor little girl, I hope they rot in jail.

LP, it should read "Warning: Having sex while intoxicated may result to having poor judgement, leading to physical bodily harm (pregnancy) and in some cases having stupid children."

My son has been playing Mortal Kombat and Doom since I can remember.(he will be 17 tomorrow! REPTILE227 on Xbox live) I once tried to lecture him at a young age about the difference between video game violence and reality and just when I began preaching my son said " Dad, it's a game, do you think I am that stupid?" I never brought it up again and have never had any violence problems or any video game problems from any of my family and we all play. I think video games have been a positive in my family and will continue to be forever, unless we have another crash like the video game crash of the early 80's which I suffered through.

<quoted text>,.....Alot ot these stupid and sadistic crimes, have nothing to do with race or parenting. Most teenagers have a mind of their own and think that they are smarter than the rest of the human population, especially their parents. So to add in racists comments and point the finger, at anyone other than the perp, doesn't help either.
There was nothing racist about his comment or mine. I said its all about parenting which it is. WHen you have people having kids when they cant afford it, is wrong. When you take the responsibility to have kids, you should not have to work 5 jobs. If you have to work 5 jobs to support your kids and you, then maybe you should think twice about having kids. If peoples selfish acts of having sex that lead to this violence. IF the mom was there to raise her kid, they would not be in this situation. This goes for all races, creeds, EVERYONE!!!!! Thats why there is so much wrong. Ill use myself as an example... When i am financially stable and can AFFORD it my girl and I will have kids. So at least one of us can be with the child to raise it at all times. Thats the right thing to do. If you can barely afford to live by yourself you should have kids. Keep it in your pants.

I have a hard time beliving this story is reported correctly, First of all who the heck plays Mortal Kombat anymore, second of all how do we know it was mortal kombat moves ?? what moves ? from what I rememeber most of those moves were not really doable by a real person.

This is irresponsible journalism, I want see someone do any move you see in that game. These kids are scum and video games have nothing to do with this stories

Two teenagers ganging up on a 7 year old? Something is wrong with their brains. I can't imagine them even having any friends, especially now.

Sick-
I have a feeling the mortal combat story is just that-a story to cover up their torture and abuse of a seven year old. Hope Karma catches up to them in jail.

This retarded gamer generation is disgusting as are thier parents. Kids are shooting up schools ,something that never happened twenty years ago. But idiot game addicts are still saying it's unrelated. You sound like potheads saying I've been smoking for twenty years and I'm not addicted. Grow Up!!!!

16 and 17 years of age murdering a 7 year old and blaming it on being drunk. So we have two irresponsible juveniles (at best) "babysitting" (and killing) another juvenile while mom is at work.

What a waste of lives.

Hmm...harsh words. Things have changed a lot in twenty years and it is not due to computer games. Look around your community. Most families today have parents working two jobs so they can live in an over, priced mcmansion and drive two SUV's. Kids are shuttled off to day care and even when the parents aren't working, many of them still shuttle the kids off to day care so they can have their "private" time. I am talking from experience and seeing it happen. Many parents today don't hold their children accountable and give them real punishments. They want to be their "friends" and don't want to "curb their creativity and independence" by setting limits on behaviour. Twenty years ago, you wouldn't have businesses putting up signs essentially asking the parents to control their kids before bringing them in.
Twenty years ago, you could still correct a child in public for their inappropriate behaviour without getting screamed at by the parents. Video games have nothing to do with that behaviour and disconnect.
