Jerry Sides has made a living by promoting the petroleum business. He does not mention the endless number of oil leaks from pipelines that have caused severe environmental damage over the last fifty years. The latest was reported on the national news just two nights ago; a farmer in North Dakota found that thousands of gallons of oil had leaked through a small hole in a buried pipeline and saturated the soil under his home and farmland.

This will happen with the surface tar sands pipeline also. Just ask the people of Kalamazoo, Michigan who had millions of tar sands spill into the Kalamazoo River. Only difference is that tar sands are like the asphalt we put on our driveways, full of carcinogens and so dense it sinks in water unlike crude oil. The tar sands is still in the bottom of the Kalamazoo River despite nearly a billion dollar spend by the petroleum company to try and dredge it out. Anti-tar sands people aren't unreasonable, they just aren't stupid. They know that the petroleum industry will mess up the Keystone XL pipeline and the environment will be harmed and the mess will not be cleaned up. The solution: sell only small, energy efficient vehicles like the Europeans do and pay more for gasoline. America will be a better country if the red necks don't get to drive their big trucks around with an empty truck bed.
