I'm a cop and I think these red cameras are just wrong. They are just to generate $$$$ for the cities. I was driving thru Arizona and had one flash at my vehicle. I never got the ticket in the mail? There were several trucks in the number 2 lane, I was in the number 1 lane and I just got lucky.

"Do the Math", you are a little man and everyone knows it, but I guess traffic violations are what keep the cops in business.

I beat my ticket there too. I told Mr. Eller on the phone that I have spend a few days doing research.#1-illegal contract "cost neutrality" where Capitola does not have to pay anything under $5950 per intersection to the ATS company.#2, right turn--and Eller said the judge does not like those tickets--she throws them out.#3 the time hit was less than 3/10th of a second. No human can react faster than that.
What people don't get is in California, YOU CAN FIGHT YOUR TICKET *TWICE*. Once by mail, then go to court for the second time. Heck, you can write with a crayon "not guilty" and send it in. If they don't reply in time, you got your case dismissed! But fight it and the city of Capitola contract is public info. Just call the city and get a copy. They e-mailed me a copy and I read though it. It says it plainly.
Lastly, you can say the picture is "hearsay" because an officer did NOT witness the incident. But SB 1303 just passed makes it not. However, you can find more about evidence because the police receive their photo tickets from ATS in AZ. So, a company handled it and is driving this for profit. You can show the evidence was not in the chain of custody by govt, but by private industry for profit. The list goes on and on....you can beat these tickets!
Yes, you can have your wife's car registered to you and your car registered to your wife. If they see male versus female or other way, show the judge "that's a female and I'm male". They will pressure you to say "who it is", but you don't have to say anything--another law in California that protects you and your spouse.

Someone above wrote NO ONE gets out of the tickets at 41st Ave.
WRONG! I got my case dismissed!
The contract that the Capitola PD has with ATS is ILLEGAL. Capitola will not have to pay ATS the full rent if there aren't enough fines to cover the cost.
I BEAT Eller and he was visibly PISSED.
The judge said congratulations. You are the first person to have brought this up.
It goes against California Vehicle Code section 21455.5 subsection G
G "A contract between a governmental agency and a manufacturer or supplier of automated enforcement equipment may not include provision for the payment or compensation to the manufacturer or supplier based on the number of citations generated, or as a percentage of the revenue generated, as a result of the use of the equipment authorized under this section."
If you bring this up to the judge YOU WILL BEAT IT. I DID!

I made a right turn into the mall and got flashed on 12/2/12. I still haven't received the citation. How long do these take to arrive in the mail?

Like others said simply just don't respond to the "suggested fee" they send you. Legally nothing can or will be done. Even the county attorney will tell you this.

Another option to prevent even being sent a "suggested fee" is to have commercial plates. This removes a person from the registration and doesn't allow anything to be sent.

Clearly our government has become nothing but a money grubbing greedy whore. It is already worst than nazi germany, and the people are doing nothing, most choose to be blind to it so they can retain their comfortable lives, this is why we call you cattle or sheeple. We have 'concentration camps' they are now called school or prison
Some of you think that potheads won the war, but that is like thinking gun registration assures your continued right to have the weapon or will help reduce gun violence and crime. HOW?! All a permit or prescription does is assure the state takes your money to get your fix, and then has a list of who to visit first when they decide to reverse prior decisions. Freedom means unregulated. Permits and prescriptions are the enemy of freedom.
As for these red light cameras, I like the toilet paper wad plastered over the camera idea, that way the city & vendor waste even more energy and money constantly fixing a non-vandalized camera (vandalism requires damage, TP stuck to the lens is not damaging ...be sure to use charmin)
