To honor the things in life that are neutral or unknown ha, yes quite simplistic I know. It originated in coronado ca, used to be a civi H2H instructor for BUDS and tie in spec ops, from all over the globe.

Most of them complained that they never knew my real name, so the nickname sirfolsom came about and just changed it to unknown when I started fuckin around on the internet.

I went in there once. I spoke with a veteran and quickly realized that at one time in his career he had been a fairly important guy.(He was highly intelligent) Something must have happened because he was living at the VA and seemed down on his luck.

Regardless I noticed he was about to relight 3/4 burned cigarette so I offered him one. The owner/mgr walked by as I was handing it to him and pitched a fit telling him "not to be bumming smokes off 'her' customers," and made him leave. He did without protest. She didn't want to hear my explanation that he had never asked for a cigarette. I'll never go back in an establishment that treated a veteran so shabbily.

The guy was probably someone who comes in there every single day. Most people you see in Mecca are like that. If she hollered at him he has probably given her reason to. He was probably back an hour later like nothing happened. She's probably had issues with him bumming. Just because you're a vet doesn't mean you can freely wander downtown bothering people.

You have some imagination. The man was spending money on and comporting himself well. She went off on him for no reason other than assuming he had asked for a cigarette when in fact he had not. He was not wandering downtown either, and he was dressed acceptably.(Not that hanging out at a dive requires any dress code.) I think she showed her true colors and they're not pretty. At best taking out personal issues on others or worse bullying someone she incorrectly thinks she's better than.

Yes, it is downtown @ 101 Buffalo St. Open 7 days a week. Small dive bar with awesome owners, cheap beer, live music.

I know the owners & have for many years. One of the owners' son is a veteran as are others in her family. I know she is very supportive of veterans and many regulars there are veterans. I wasn't there so all I can say is that I have never seen her or other owners/bartenders treat anyone - vet or otherwise - disrespectfully unless that person disrespected them or another patron. In fact, quite the opposite. I have seen them go out of their way to help people - paying for cabs, feeding them, etc. I believe there's more to this story. I've known these people & spent time in the bar for over 20 years.

I know the person you speak of, and he is generally dressed appropriately. Early in the evening he does not cause any trouble. He generally pays for his beer with change, and thinks a nickel is a good tip. A bit later when the bartender announces last call, he asked for 1 more beer insisting it will only take 5 minutes. Yet 15 minutes later he is still sitting there with that beer. He knows good and well it is closing time or getting close to that. The bartenders will ask him to finish his beer because it is time to leave. Now out of nowhere it take him 30 minutes to finish a beer, when before he could drink 1 in 10 minutes. He constantly insults the bartenders for being too slow, and at the end of his 6 draft beers only tips a quarter. He generally camps out for so long that he has to be escorted out after closing time. As long as there are people inside, whether they work there or not, he wants to be there. He pretends not to understand that employees can stay after to do their finishing duties. Honestly he is a bartender's nightmare.

I'm under the impression that most establishments downtown will not allow him inside. Maybe when you saw him he was not begging, but as the night drags on he will start. The entire downtown area knows exactly who he is. IfIf you are going to boycott 1 location because they will not serve Him or because they ask him to leave, then you probably shouldn't go downtown at all.

The Mecca has been in existence for many many years. It has stood the innovative test of time from being a kinda redneck joint back in the 70's to being a good hangout for both older and younger people. They have live music and a very friendly staff, as long as you know how to behave. Act like an idiot and you will be treated as one. They will be moving soon, thanks to a Very Anal Retentive building owner who fell into ownership from his pappy and has been trying for years to bleed them for more money. I wish them luck in the new location and I hope all the regulars will patronize them as in the past. The owners are good folk!

OMG, I know the owner you spoke of! What a prick! He's nothing like his father who is a good man and his son probably needs a good spanking from him. If the city ever decided to inspect that rat's nest they would condemn it in a second. I am glad the Mecca is out from under the gun and hope they do well. I wonder what will move into the old space.

You must be talking about Hubert! I don't know about his dad, but he is a real pain. What a dork! Yes, the building is awful. About to fall in. I just don't see how it is allowed to be open for business. Could be that Jimmy Hoffa is enclosed and decomposing in a wall there. But, I regress back to the subject and hope the new Mecca will have success in the new dwelling. Good folks come thru in the long run.

His name isn't Hobart, it's Herb. He's a bit of a snake oil salesman and an azz****. I'm glad the Mecca is free from him. From what I hear, he can't hold down a real job and gets his money from the old property he's hawking and his wife keeping him up. Nobody likes him. On the bright side, I'm sure the Mecca will do much better now! Keep it coming on, Mecca!

He just wanted the riff-raff like you off his property. His right. Now go back to your diability check drawing crowd, and the proprietor who enables your alcohol dependency, because they all like you there. One or two might even know your full name.

I dont know about a snake oil salesman, Are you kidding, sell something. He does not need or have to work. Tells it like it is, most of time. Heard once years ago when the Peanut was gone the Mecca would be doomed. Time well Tell
