In the words of a famous Tennesseean Justin Timberlake: "Cry Me a River". Why would they not pick Johnson City over Bristol & Kingsport? Kingsport downtown is fading fast & smells of rotten death with the plants polluting the air & Southwest Virginian rednecks occupying every corner. Johnson City was always going to be the destination, so drive on over & gives us your money. Johnson City is annually voted as one of the best places to live, while Kingsport is annually voted as one of the worst places to live in the U.S.. Look it up Captain America, & then get you some cheese to go with that wine.

I bet the first thing the Tupelo Honey delegation asked when they stepped out of their car in Kingsport is "Who Farted"?

Taxes are higher in Kingsport, more jobs are in JC, Kingsport only grows by annexing people in the city limits and yes Kingsport smells. BTW Kingsport's Mall sucks as well...

How sad that people in Kingsport have breathed that filthy air so long they no longer think it stinks! I would hope I would never become immune to it! Who cares who annexes what. Ever wonder why upper management execs at Eastman, don't actually live in the town? People who have better jobs can afford to get out of town after work!

The smell varies in location and intensity depending on the wind pattern and strength. I usually run into it coming down hill from Colonial Heights near the Walmart. On rare occasions I can get a faint whiff of it here on the north side of Gray. People who live and work in Kingsport are used to the smell the same way as someone not being aware of their own body odor or bad breath.

Facts are this:

Most of the decent residents of KPort travel over to JCity during the week/weekends for dining out, shopping, entertainemt, etc.

JCity always the Bride; KPort always the Bridesmaid.
That's just the way it is, always will be.

Kport never could catch up to JCity. That's the bottom line.

I wonder why is it that Johnson City bought that property for $150,000.00 from a mortgage company foreclosure and then sold it for $5,000.00 to an attorney who then turned around and sold it for who knows how much to a developer. So we can see the tax payers lost $145,000.00 already. But how much did the attorney MAKE on his deal? Now the restaurant is looking for tax relief. How many times do the tax payers have to lose in one deal?
Also, Johnson City has been recognized for three trees in the city. How good would it be if the large Beech Trees were still on Market and State of Franklin. Oh! another developer won there.

Kingsport "stinks". There are always people lined up at their soup kitchens. The downtown area is extremely dirty, and there are many homeless. The Johnson City location will be great, and will be beautiful when they are done. All one needs to do is come to Johnson City on any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, and try to get in a restaurant. ALL of our restaurants are packed on these days, plus many are very crowded during the week. The few times we have come to "STINK TOWN" to eat, we have NEVER had to wait. Kingsport is a "has been". Johnson City has the VA, medical college, ETSU, Mountain States, etc., etc. These employers are WAY more upscale than Eastman. The stench in Kingsport is enough to turn your stomach. Look at the restaurants that have gone out in Kingsport! Johnson City just keeps adding more!
