Planning a girls night out in Johnson City Tn. What are the best bars, or night life in the area? Are there hotels within walking distance? What about cab services? Any info is helpful!

Baileys is a good sports bad. TV's and pool tables. Good size place. It is across from JC Mall.

I hear The Factory has booked several good bands. It is in the old "Nashville Sound" location. Check them out on Facebook.

What about the Battery and other places in downtown JC? Seems like there is a lot of crime downtown especially late night. Not sure it's worth the risk!

I wonder if the investigators have made the connection between the King College student shot last week and that place. And wasn't the "knockout" attack that left a man hospitalized also very near the Battery?

The Battery is a fun bar/dance club. What does "near the Battery" have to do with the Battery? There are many people downtown at night on the weekends. I personally think it is unfair to attribute the acts of a criminal to an establishment. Last year that guy was robbed and killed and dumped on Quarry Road after being at Numans. Police need to be on bikes and on foot in the bars and parking lots at losing time in my opinion.

Both of the people involved in the shooting death last week had been drinking at the Battery and the incident happened in the parking lot between 2:30 and 3:00. I support a 1:00 curfew for all bars in JC. Nothing good happens to anybody that late and bar owners are just greedy to want to stay open to sell more alcohol! Maybe these establishments need to pay for more security for their dangerous parking lots!

in the State of Tennessee bars can serve until 3AM. The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the Tennessee State Legislature has set that time, The Battery is a night clUb and serves under those guidelines set by the state. There were also hundreds of others drinking there and all over the tricities that night, that late. One criminal killed someone. The battery did not kill the guy. The justice system had put the alleged murderer on probation for an armed robbery and dismissed a attempted murder charge on the same guy after he had been placed on Tennessee's most wanted list and been extradited from Georgia for actually shooting somebody! He was a convicted felon with a stolen gun! I know of no establishment that does background on patrons. Do you? If you want a 1 o'clock last call lobby the legislature. That's what last call is in Arizona where my family lives. You must be a socialist or want to inhibit commerce. The Battery is trying to make money! They are capitalists. You cannot blame them for a criminal with a stolen gun in his car that kills someone.

. And another thing! It is not The Battery's parking lot! It is the City of Johnson City's parking lot where they have the Farmer's Market. Maybe now you think Johnson City killed that poor kid!

I don't blame these establishments, unless they were serving someone who was already drunk! I think it is a good idea to make them pay for added security especially late at night. I'm not sure about liability in a court, but the city of JC was not serving alcohol. If anybody needs to lobby the legislature it should be for stricter gun laws and background checks for convicted felons, but it was a stolen gun so he got around that! You are right about a failed justice system when this killer was on the streets with a gun. It's just very sad when a 24 year old dies under these or any circumstances!

Should every establishment downtown pay for a downtown private security team to walk the streets and parking lots? I would go for that, but the JCPD might take exception to a roving band of vigilante/mercenary type security guys and gals walking the streets. The shooter had many charges, noe of which was public intoxication. They didn't even charge the perpetrator with being drunk with a gun. I thought there was some law against that, but I'm not a lawyer. Republicans defeated stricter gun laws after all those first graders were killed by that nut in Newtown. They also are against background checks for all gun transactions, but you are right in saying that this gun was stolen, so that would not have affected this guy. You are also right in that it is very sad. This young man seemed like a good kid that was on the right track. The justice system is a mess.
