Sorry to say buddy, but in spite of your credentials your best bet is to apply through the local temp agencies. I know it sucks, but that's the way things are done here nowadays. Be prepared to jump through hoops and lower your standards. Either Staffmark or Staffpro, I'm not sure which, hire for American Water Heaters. If you are lucky enough to be made permanent there, it is a good place to work.

Don't give up just yet! AWH hires only as needed and just any slacker can't get hired. There is a good chance you may get hired permanently. It all depends on when you are there, how hard you work and show initiative, and mostly if a replacement is needed during your tenure as a temporary employee there. As one of the biggest employers in the city, there is a turnover of employees retiring and the normal attrition of workers for valid reasons. It seems business is booming there right now! All in all, the benefits for temp employees are not that bad, not great, but you can get by on them for a while, but if you get made permanent, it's a fine place to work and very stable employment with excellent benefits. And I mean work! No slackers allowed. As I said before, being hired through a temp agency is the new normal.

I also suggest employment agencies. That's how most manufacturing places around here hire. I heard Subway on South Roan is hiring right now.

Yep, that's what I meant, apply through the employment agencies, sorry for my not making that clear. AWH is supported by Staffpro or Staffmark, I'm not sure which. Back when I was desperately looking for a job, I found the Tn. Dept. of Unemployment to be a total joke, treating me like a bumpkin with no skills and going through the steps of advice about not wearing blue jeans to an interview! And don't expect any help from online agencies either ( Monster.com , etc.) they only set you up for spam from on line truck driving schools and "universities" both of which will bug you to death with offers that cost you money in the end. It's a damn shame jobs are so hard to get nowadays and that some "placement headhunters" take advantage of it.
