First off you need to have a legitimate reason to be in pain. CT's, MRI's, and studies to show what and where the pain it. Preferrably from your PCP or other health care provider who can then refer you to a pain clinic in the Tri Cities.
If you have Fibromyalgia or unspecific pain, then be prepared cause you will not be given any sort of narcotic or really anything stronger than Ibuprophen. You might get Cymbalta, Lyrica, or a muscle relaxer to go with the Ibuprophen.
This is especially true of Pain Med Associates. And they have the right to refuse or dismiss any patient who is abusing their time and services.
Well said, Renee. It's all a part of paying for tests that cost a fortune and may or may not isolate the cause. It's all part of the system, one hand washes the other. As long as you are fortunate enough to have insurance, you just (may) get a chance to have some relief. References, specialists, etc, just part of the way the system works.

<quoted text>You said it well, Puff. The acetaminophen is the bad culprit. However, the manufacturers would have us believe it is all hunky dory as far as side effects of the medicine that degrades and turn toxic with time. Still yet, the good drug is accompanied by it and the manufacturers keep in getting the residuals. Damn shame that so many abusers snort the stuff for a buzz, only to make it harder for the folks who need it to get a prescription. As long as these medicines are used for recreational buzzes, the folks who need them will have to jump through hoops to get them. Damn shame, it is!
My mother is currently involved in a lawsuit against the acetaminophen manufacturers. Her late husband died as a direct result of liver damage due to it a little over 2 years ago. After a minor accident, he ruptured his spleen and that's all he was told to take. The pain was so bad he took as many as he had to to dull the pain. His liver count was 50x above normal levels when he died. They new he was a life long drinker and why he was told to take that and not an NSAID is beyond me. He was a truck driver and narcotics were out of the question.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I've noticed that there is now so called "legislation" to limit the acetaminophen in pain killers to 325 doses per pain killer. Maybe that is to let abusers snort the stuff without deadly effects? That in itself says something. Drug companies don't care from where the profits come. Seems to me, NSAIDS and even good old Aspirin are being culprits. Remember when docs said, take an aspirin every day to make your heart well? Well, now it's take a baby aspirin instead. Kinda like back in the day when a count of 300 was the borderline of cholesterol, now it's 200. Seems to me the drug companies and the FDA are in cahoots.

If you turn on TV Land or a similar station during the day, you'll see commercials from lawyers that are making careers out of suing the pharmaceutical companies. They can make a fortune by just focusing on the side effects of one drug. My dad won a lawsuit over a drug that caused him to become diabetic. After he quit taking the drug, the diabetes went away.

As someone who endured chronic pain for 4 years, I can tell you that you should start with your MD and let him refer you to any doctor that can pinpoint the pain. Only as a last resort should you elect a pain block. I know what you are going through and I feel sorry for you, but you CAN endure it; I did. Will say a prayer for you that you will soon be healed. Good luck!

Quality of Life has a cash discount. They also take insurance. From my experience they provide healthcare not just script writing. I'm sent for regular X-rays and MRI yearly plus labs to make sure kidney and liver functions are normal. I highly recommend. Must hand physician referral. Hope this helps some. Good luck!

Don''t go to Pain Medicine Associates in Johnson City! These are a bunch of heartless dogs who need to be put out of business. I am comtemplating a malpractice lawsuit with them now. I would rather go to my vet than to go back there. I don't think there is anyone in the Tri-Cities. I would try out of town but have your xray, CT's etc for diagnoses.

I have been suffering with chronic pain for years. My PC in NC wrote scripts for methadone for me but inTN I can't find anyone who will write for that which is crazy. Ask any Dr methadone is the cheapest narcotic out there. It works great, it does not contain any acetaminophen or any NSAIDS. The only thing against it is ignorance. Because it is also used in treating addicts It was used for treating pain long before they started using it in treatment. I have been on it for 12 years with no ill side effects. It is what the VA docs use to treat pain in our soldiers. People are ignorant and flip out if you even menion it. But for chronic pain it is the best thing to use, if you can find a dr willing to subscribe it. If anyone knows of such a doc please let me know. I have been pouring over the net trying to locate a pain management group who uses it no luck so far. goodluck to you all!!
