I think the Johnson City Press is one of the worst newspapers I have ever seen.

I often see misspellings, bad grammar, and unfinished articles. What I hate most of all is NO LAYOUT CONSITANCY. Todayís edition even moved the editorials, letters and opinions to a different section.

They need to change or someone please bring a quality paper to Northeast Tennessee.

If I could get the Bristol Herald delivered I would drop the JC Press.

What is your opinion?

I agree. Poor layout and liberal bias. I don't mind a liberal paper (I occasionally read the Washington Post), but even the Post keeps things in perspective.

The Press has had a monopoly on the print news in JC for way too long.

I like some of the writers both local news and sports, its the editing that sucks.

I have been reading the JC Press about six years. I don't see the liberal slant but I haven't been looking for it. To me it is more conservative.

I don't understand why they bury Doonesbury in the classified section. Other papers I have read don't.

I find the full page advisement as the first page to the religion section bizarre, unless they are trying to send the religious folks a message.

I really enjoy Garrison Keillorís column in Saturdays edition. Garrison is liberal but most other columnists are not.

My biggest gripe is also the inconsistency with layout. You just never know where a section will be.

I really hate the column where the guy reviews restaurants. Have you ever noticed they are always good reviews. My husband and I tried a couple of restaurants he said were excellent and were greatly disappointed. Maybe the restaurants are paying him and it is being used as a form of advertisement.

Just like what Passing Thru said above, if I could get another paper delivered they could keep the JC Press.

Have you ever read...or should I say TRIED reading the Elizabethton Star? The content is good....reporting seems accurate and fair....but the editor must be Stevie Wonder.....really. It's absolutely awful...the mis-prints....the wording...lousy spelling. Always been like that.

The Times News and the Johnson CIty Press are owned by the same company. That is why they are printed at the same place. They also own the Erwin, Mountain City and Jonesborough newspapers.

Aside from the poor editing, (they are too dependent on spell check) My biggest complain is how in bed they are with the Washington county sheriff's department. They're are so many dirty things going on in that department yet the press helps them sweep it all under the rug...

Friday Aug. 7 or maybe it was Thursdays Aug. 6 edition of the press was a hoot. James Brooks article about celebrating his wifeís birthday tells you what an idiot this guy is. What kind of fool would take binoculars with him to a restaurant on his wifeís birthday to look at the birds. Man donít you know what Filipinos are known as, LBFM, put the binoculars down and put her to good use. Brooks recently ridiculed Garrison Keillorís use of the term Professional English Major, yet he glorifies the term.

The Mystery Diner has got to be the biggest joke in the Press. Can you believe the Bozo did a Mystery Diner article about an ICE MACHINE! Get friggin real. This tells me James Brooks must be the Mystery Diner writer.

Canít wait till the next edition, get my laugh of the day and a trash can liner all in one.

Johnson city press and kingsport times news are DEFINATELY both Liberal!! Pay attention to how they word the headlines or anything for that matter! What really is bad is that they make you sign up (almost have to give blood!) and go thru all that rig-a-ma-roar just see the the news thats got a SPIN on it anyway!

Liberal bias in the Press, huh? Ever think that you find liberal bias if that's what you expect to find? Calling the Press liberal is like calling George W. Bush a genius. I also agree that some of you folks should start running spell check on your posts before you make claims about poor spelling.

Quoting Sandra Day O'Connor's definition of Judicial Activism: "The definition of an activist judge is a judge who makes a ruling you don't agree with." Is it possible the same is true for calling a newspaper biased?(Because I don't really think that the JC Press is biased.)

I find the editorial comments of the Times-News to be mainly conservative, but fair. I rarely read the JC paper. I assume both run AP stories, a most definitely left-wing, looney, liberal news service. Please make sure you do not confuse AP stories with local origination stories. I find most local stories to be well-researched, and in the main, un-biased. I do understand why some ultra-liberals would find fault because these papers do not follow the NYTimes yellow-rag school of journalism. We NET denizens are fortunate to have local papers with real people sitting behind the desks!

It's not just the sheriff's office. The JCPD pretty much tells the jc press their version of the news before it happens. Money or backscratching? Somethings going on. Same goes for WJHL.

The JC Press headline today is "putting on a happy FACADE." Though it's a story about hopes downtown renovation (read developers profits), that headline is way too often true for the Press---photos of dogs on the front page a lot, they love that, happy stuff, smiling children, editorials like "casual clothing has gone too far in many workplaces," and then a kind of public stoning for the sex sting guys last week. A weird mix without a middle.

Happy Facade JC Press satire at this address, the Oct. 4 entry.

http://canofwhupass.typepad.com/my_weblog/200...

Beware, the satire is strong--not for the weak in spirit, sex sting cops, assistant city managers, or Republican evangelical voters. You have been warned.

I hate the JC press. Way to many wire articles + the weirdest news is selected.

Most of the stories that show up in the JC press were already on CNN, Reuters, etc the previous evening. There really isn't anything new except the same old stuff.

I think it's funny how there is a story about ETSU every other day.
