Here's a novel idea: just don't go.

I agree 100%. When booking the schedule, you'd think the folks in charge would latch on to the fact that the music industry has always been about youth culture. But then, the Tri Cities as a whole IS a retirement community...

Aw, quit your whining.......it's free. Sure, most of the bands were insufferably lame, to say the least, but nobody held a gun to your head to witness it. Just for the record, not much of the MTV jive ass youth music plays well, especially with the people who might spend money there. I for one wouldn't want to go there and see a bunch of baggy assed wannabe thugs singing karaoke with ripped off riffs calling themselves talent. It's all about the profits. Shucks, a bottle of water for 2 bucks, a beer for 5 is a rip off. Johnson City, in spite of trying to turn "cultured" downtown into the next Asheville: it ain't gonna happen. All in all, it's just fun, seeing a few drunk folks make asses of themselves, and paying for overpriced food and drink, so go with it. I had a good time there.

God, what a pathetic stage for Johnson City to parade it's "finest" citizens on. This town is Such a Dump. I left JC and crossed the state line into North Carolina and felt overwhelmed with relief!
Johnson City...what a good place to be from.
Don't you all need just one more chain restaurant?
Maybe they can find a new way to fry some animal or vegetable product.
Wouldn't that be Super!?!

I stayed about 30 minutes and that was all that I could stand. More than half the males had the "East Tennessee Uniform" on:

T-Shirt with sleeves cut out
Tattoos running up both legs and both arms
Pierced ears
Cigarette hanging out of their mouth

More than half the females had also had the "East Tennessee Uniform" on:

One size fits all shorts stretched super tight around huge hips and back side.
Tattoos running up both legs and arms with a stray tattoo somewhere on the foot or neck
Long cigarette hanging out of their mouth
Some kind of halter that is two sizes too small exposing huge, fat boobs thinking they look sexy.

And of course, they were all inebriated.

The last thing I saw was a family with three small kids with parents wearing the East Tennessee uniform and two grandparents. The grandmother was dressed casual, but rather nicely. However, she fell behind the rest of the family because she drug out a long skinny cigarette and couldn't seem to light it. The dad came back to help her and she proceeded to cuss him out for leaving her behind.

I then told my wife let's go out to eat somewhere nice and get out of this mess.

The pall of cigarette smoke was a thick, oppressive, choking cloud that hung like the shawl of death over the whole proceeding. Mixed with the foul odeurs of all the fried foods, the results promised heart and lung disease, alcohol-fueled fisticuffs and full jail cells at JCPD.

It is Johnson City. What else would you expect? City employees and management make the decisions. Why do you think they would make any good decisions regarding the Blue Plum Festival? Heck, they obviously can't time traffic signals unless they have a $1 million traffic camera system and they don't have the basic skills to budget annually for street repairs and maintenance. Most of the department directors do not have the educational background for their job or are inept otherwise. Many of the Department Heads have been there their entire career. That is because they know they couldn't go anywhere else and they are lazy and have gotten into the good ole boy bribe system. What a pathetic bunch. How do they live with their actions? No government people are EVER held accountable for their actions. They're pieces of sh#t.

You idiot, city government can't manage the rednecks attending a beer festival. Guess what? If you live in Johnson City, you get to vote. The last election only had an 11% turn-out of registered voters. If you don't vote, you don't get to complain. Therefore, your post is ignored.

Jack, if you don't like the East Tn. people, why do you live here? Most of the people I saw there were very decent and well behaved. Sure there were a few drunks and misfits there, but in a proper proportion. Where are you from anyhow? Maybe you are just looking at it all through jaded eyes. I will say this much, just about everyone there seemed to be having a good time. Loosen up a little and you might have a good time too.

I don't live in Johnson City. I live in a neighboring community and work in Johnson City. If I lived in JC, I would run for City Commissioner, not just vote for the lame people that are in office now. You have no idea of the waste and criminal activity of some people at the City. Idiot.

Two things. First, if you don't live in Johnson City, why in the hell do you care how Johnson City is governed? Second, if you don't live in Johnson City, why do you have an internet IP address from Johnson City?

I won't call you any names this time, you have already proved your intelligence level.

What you just said really makes no sense, lol. Also, you do realize that the Police Dept. is a part of the City of Johnson City and answers to the City Manager don't you? The City is in charge of the entire event.

You do realize don't you that this festival is an optional event. You don't have to go and you don't have to be a resident of Johnson City. What in the hell do the police department have to do with the festival???

[QUOTE who="a bunch of baggy assed wannabe thugs singing karaoke with ripped off riffs[/QUOTE]

You just disqualified yourself from speaking on modern music as it pertains to the festival in question. There is much good to be had without confining proposed talent within those parameters.

Well pardon me all over the place. I was responding to a thread pertaining to "youth music", not modern music, being on the venue. That's a world of difference. You just disqualified yourself from being a credible communicator by not reading the posts, thusly confining yourself to the parameters of being a slow learner. Pay attention before you start regurgitating your alphabet soup.

Yeah, a world of difference. You know, because modern music trends are in no way influenced and/or set by youth of a given time period.
