Most schools use adults to make choices durning cheerleading tryouts. I think schools should not use high school age girls to decide who makes the team. These girls have been introduced to girls already on the team. In areas outside of school like summer camps, churches, etc. Why not use teachers or adults from another area chosen by the principal not the coach? Tryouts should be 100 fair. If your daughter and her friends doesnt make it and your the coach then maybe the coach should move on also!
I would like to see the principal re do tryouts. Anyone agree?

Aw, let the little rich snots do their thing. Cheerleaders are old hat. Nobody has school spirit (thank goodness) or really cares which little rich girl gets the position. As for adults making the decision, that's too much buying leverage with the parents. As for the older kids making the decision, it's the same politics. Why not just forget the whole thing? Most of the students don't care which young hussie gets the appointment. Focus on school, not sports.

I agree with you Typical. It should be based on Talent not popularity.

Typical needs to stop whining because your child did not make the team. She could always practice and try out next year. The coach just lost a parent today so why dont you leave it alone! She uses cheerleaders who are sent to her and she does not know who or where they will be from! and for your information "laffin gravy" I know each and every one of these girls and they are not rich little snots! they are far from it! These girls are not hussies, they are very smart, talented little girls. They have to learn almost 200 cheers in a very short time. They learn lots of different fast paced dances over the course of the year. Unlike some sports, they practice all summer long! In the past, they have made up gift boxes with things needed for the elderly and taken them to nursing homes at Christmas and visited (this is only a few of the things they do). This group of girls are good to everyone, no matter where they come from or how much money they have (ask any kid from Boones Creek Middle!). These are facts . And the tryouts were based on talent. That is the the reason they use older cheerleaders! Who better to know whos the best? And from my understanding, one of the judges was an older lady! So why are you posting Ashes 82? I agree with you on one thing ...you can't argue with stupidity!

Nobody is whining! And this is a conversation that is far and between people who doesnt even have children at that school. And you are not stating the facts parent. And nobody said anything about anyone loosing a parnet. Nobody is trying to make anything personal with the coach other than cheering. Stay on subject! Yes one judge was an older lady, I said high school girls. And I've been there trust me just because they cheer doesnt mean they should be judging! That is the point.

Your statement makes no sense. If "Typical" nor you have children at Boones Creek Middle why and how are you following Cheer tryouts and what business is it of yours. I bet you do have kids there and I also bet if tryouts were done the way you are suggesting and your little angel didnt make it you would still be griping.

I live in Columbus Ohio, and I can assure you I have no children in this school system. My Mother-in-law lives in Erwin so I check out your news from time to time. This caught my attention, and I agree with the creator of the post. We all now how high school was, if you weren't a member of a certian "clique" or didn't dress of act exactly like everyone eles you were ostricized. Adult should have done the judging, teen-agers are far more interested that their best friend, or little sister, etc....makes the team over someone with the talent, just not the popularity. And this is coming from an ex-cheerleader, I can tell you that is how it would have been at my school.

The judges were brought in from high school outside area. Get your facts straight.

FYI... When we were pretty new to this area, our daughter tried out at a junior high here in Washington Co. I assure you she did not know the judges or any of the girls trying out. She made the team due to the fact she had taken dance and tumbling since she was 4! Not one of those girls ever appeared to think they were better than anyone or be in some type of "clique". That all comes from how they are raised at home!

Not so! I cheered, my daughter cheered and I can tell you that I am well informed on this topic. Thats my point.. High School girls should not be judges. I have been the High school student.

I have made it more than clear that I am NOT from this small town, or even this state. The above statement is the ONLY "facts" I have gotten. IF this is how this school conducts its cheer-leading tryouts, yes I feel it is wrong, and have already stated why. If there was/were a un-biased adult present, then disregard my comment. If your daughter is half as snooty as you it is no wonder she fit right in with that crowd.

So do you agree or disagree with poster you are replying to? An d how can you know these are"facts" as you put it when you are not a resident of this small town or state? Your post are not only confusing but baseless and ignorant by your own admission.

Thanks, I'm glad I am not the only one that knows alot about cheering and feels this is wrong. Yes one adult was present but I feel all should have been qualified adults.

I am not surprised to read about problems and screw-ups at Boones Creek Middle School. The principal, Mr. Edmonds is too overly concerned with catering to the families with money. He does not treat everyone fairly and spends most of the school day locked up in his office on the phone. When is our school ever going to get a decent principal?

Like I said, snooty little rich girl makes the team. Bets you are paying tuition or have some inside contact. Tumbling and dance since age of 4..........Jon Benet Ramsey syndrome!

It is obvious you know nothing about Mike Edmonds. Do some research on the Man before you come here talking about him in such a terrible way. You would not believe what the compasion he has shown for students and staff over the years! Please know your facts before you post .
