I am a registered nurse and will be moving to the tricities area in the next few months. I was wondering if Johnson City Medical Center and Bristol Regional Medical Center have inpatient oncology units? I know Holston Valley does, but I just wondering if the other hospitals did because I'm not sure exactly where I will be living yet. Does anyone have any preferences as to which hospital would be better to work at? Thanks!

I'm not sure which ones have those units, but out of the ones that do, choose any place but JCMC. I'd rather work for anyone besides Mountain States. Holston Valley would be your best bet. It's wonderful.

Just my opinion, but the Med Center in JC is a mess right now. Long term employees are being headhunted and let go for the least of infractions. From what I gather it is the result of very poor management trying to bring the budget back. I'm in no way connected to the medical profession, but sure wouldn't want to start a job with a hospital in chaos. As far as the inpatient oncology, I am quite sure both hospitals have same. But a certain high ranking radiology doc at JCMC is quite the smartass. I sure wouldn't want to try to work with him.

I am sorry that Tom Petty has such a lowbrow humorous(?) response, but my original opinion still stands. My intent was to inform you and not intended to confuse you. Too bad some posters try to be comedians at the expense of others.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would let you know that I work at BRMC, and we do have an oncology wing. It's 2 West. Other patents wind up on that wing though, mostly palliative care folks.

Stay away from MSHA right now, 2nd round of layoffs on the way in May & Covenant is rumored to be buying them out since they can't seem to operate out of the red.
