Just heard a interisting comment the other day. The person I heard it from is someone I trust very much. Rumor is that our neighbor city of Ashville has been loading up their homeless folks and giving them a free van ride to our fair city where "We are better set up to deal with a homeless population" ???? guess it is a cheap way to deal with homeless and keep their downtown neat. It should be looked into to determine if it is true. It is a Federal violation to do this.

Yes it should be looked into thats for sure and what people can do to actually help these people out in their times of "need". Relating to the 2 towns though, I am not understanding what is "illegal" about moving people around, in the "land of the free"? Other than it being possibly forced, if that is what your relating to? Too be honest no town or city is really suited to "help" the homeless, only small programs and few shelters. The ones provided by TRUE charity, are of course "flat broke" with funding and do not meet hardly any normal criteria. Just on the food aspect alone, I have seen so many times, people who send back their order of food or simply waste an entire meal, based upon it not suiting their taste buds or simple minded delight. You really think a starving family is going to care about if their steak wasnt cooked to specification or maybe that their baked potato had a cold spot? Will stop their though or this will just turn into a maddening rant of why people have to shun away from "helping" one another in general.

Also on a personal opinion and note, it really even hits home with me in Kingsport also, and how the "non-homeless" place ads on billboards and papers, simply stating that some homeless was actually college graduates. As if to say, HEY its time to really start helping these people out, some actually used to be "real people" since they went to college. Make sure to ask what their degree is in, or college they went to, so they can be worthy of charity.

Now on too the larger scale issues at hand. How do we keep allowing massive spending on "wars" and special grants, but we cannot even provide food and shelter for the homeless all together. Just take away the spending on useless surveys and corrupt budgets of officials in every state, and then boom, more than enough for every homeless person in the entire nation. Also just simply eliminate homeland security's entire program and use their illegal funding and take care of our "own", so to speak. So many options of where government could ACTUALLY help the entire world and nation(s), but would rather choose to line their pockets.

Here is a link on the governments "organization" that "helps" the homeless of our nation. Which sadly never really tells the methods, just does as every other politician only speaks on theories.

Take Care and would really like to hear some insight on this issue also, lots of information still in the dark personally.

If that's true we need to either ship them back or make them get a job at McDonald's! There's no excuse to be homeless. People want to say there's no jobs there's no jobs... Just a damn excuse not to work. There are jobs if you LOOK

There is basic slave positions available open if thats what you mean?

How is a fast food chain going to feed your family or even you. Lets say its does feed you quite well, that is ALL it going to do. Your not going to establish credit or even keep your head "above the water" in any other aspect.

Honestly lots of homeless people know more about "life" than most "classes" of social society. I would advise you to look at the US currency and its REAL standing in the global economy, and learn that you could end up homeless yourself, very soon. Then I promise you, that same homeless group, would be there for you way more than the government and hell even some of your own family.

Also, im sorry you feel as if, it is as simple as them "getting" a job would fix their lives. Most homeless would never even get hired, according to the bullshit employment requirements nowadays.

Take Care

I work for a local homeless shelter, and I can assure you, we've seen no influx from Asheville. Closest to that I've seen was about 3 months ago and we saw a bunch from KARM in Knoxville coming through here.
As for good & bad, you don't have a clue.

Excuse me? You have no idea what I've been through to get to where I'm at. You can't help someone who won't help them self! People at McDonald's or other places might not make a lot but I know people who pay their rent & get by with it!

As we all know there's good & bad in all.

I have volunteered in different things throughout my entire life. I truly believe we receive from God what we need ourselves by giving of ourselves to others. All ppl are our teachers for even the bad teach what we dont need or want in our lives. I enjoy learning. I have made it a point to not only talk to the Homeless but to also listen to what they have to say.

I met a Homeless Doctor, a Homeless Attorney, a Homeless couple in their 50's who lost everything they had worked for all their lives when they both lost their job's at the same time. I met Veterans & addicts & many mentally ill. Each and every single story was educational and enlightening.

The very thing that amazes me the most is how many ppl I met that were never even taught how to live a responsible life. They were never taught they had to get up at a certain time or go to bed at a certain time or that they absolutely had to work and support themselves or even how to practice good hygiene or count money or live on a budget or respect themselves by respecting others.

Learning all this made me even more thankful for my parents but it absolutely rips my heart out to know that so many ppl have never even been given a chance of survival in life simply because they have never even been taught how to survive. That brings me to the old saying: "If u give a man a fish he can eat a meal but if u teach him to fish he can eat for the rest of his life." And then that brings me to: "U cant help someone who wont help themselves."

One homeless guy laughed right in my face and told me the working ppl were the fools! That he could drink & drug & party without any responsibilities whatsoever and that the working ppl & the GVT would provide him with the money & the benefits to do it with!

Then, there's those whom have never been taught but truly want to learn. They are those whom have struggled all their lives to just try to figure out how to make life work but they only ended up confused when nothing they tried seemed to work. These u can actually HELP because they dont want u to do it for them, they actually want to LEARN how to HELP THEMSELVES! I have only ran into just a very few of these in my lifetime and I guess its them that keeps me just trying to help. To watch their excitement every time they achieve something, no matter how small of a task it may be has got to be one of the most exhilarating things I have ever experienced in this life. Its like planting a flower garden and watching the flowers grow & blossom & bloom!

The point is; we cant fix ppl. We cant change ppl! We all have to want to improve ourselves to be able to accomplish anything. There used to be a few ppl that was all the time asking me to borrow some money. One day a friend of mine said: "Offer them a job to earn the money and see what happens." The very next person that came to me & asked to borrow money I offered him a job to earn it. It was obvious it made him furious. He said: "Well, I might do that later but I need the money today." I said well u can do the job today and get paid today. He said: "Well, I'll check back with u about that later but right now I've got to go." He never did check back with me later and he never did come back to borrow money anymore. Do u know what? I began to do that with every single person that came & asked me to borrow money and absolutely NOBODY asks me to borrow money anymore! LOL

Sometimes the only thing we can do for someone is pray for them. Yet, always be willing to lend a helping hand. We never know when it could be us that needs help. Its costs absolutely nothing to just try to help!

Sorry for saying so much. I always wondered how some found so much to say on here & now I guess I know...LOL

First of all, a person can support THEMSELVES on minimum wage. I know because I've done it. Can they support a family? Well, that depends. Are you talking about the 1950's family where the man is the only one who works? If so then no. Fortunately, women are capable of working so if both parties have a job then yes...they can support their family. If they come up short then there are food stamps and other programs out there to help. Lack of willingness to work really has little to do with the topic of homelessness though.

However, I do find it interesting that the same person who has reported being uneducated also proclaims that you can't live on minimum wage which makes me wonder...how DO you live? Yes, minimum wage sucks. I know because I made minimum wage for a long, long time. I also know that having a paycheck, even though it was small, beat the hell out of being broke.

Anyway, homelessness usually is the result of SEVERAL events and not just one like "they don't want to work." Considering that a person can live in public housing 100% rent free and get food stamps should be proof that even people who only "don't want to work" don't have to be homeless.

A large portion of the homeless population are mentally ill. If you'd get off your asses and actually go out and do something other than bickering then you would see that as a reality instead of just words. Saying "many homeless people are mentally ill" really doesn't mean a lot until you've interacted with mentally ill people. They can't function well enough to perform daily hygeine without help so they don't even have the capacity to think about "not wanting to work."

Waste..of..time. Get off your computers and take a blanket to a homeless person. It's getting cold, assholes.

This is a stupid post you make. There arent even any burger flipping jobs open in the papers.

I think you live inside your own imagination where reality cannot get to you, eh?

Is that what you have to do to feel superior to others less fortunate? Just make up BS and then post it as if it was true?

Thanks hillbilly boy. I hate punks like this. Most of them are worthless. I give to homelessness in the hopes that, God might see fit to help me when I need it. Or that it be returned. Karma is real...I hate people like that punk, and I'd beat him down, because he needs it. Like to do it in front of his kids . They need to know that their daddy is a punk and watch while he gets his ass whipped. Know whati mean?

"There is no excuse for being homeless". Ignorant comment. So there is no excuse for being mentally ill? For a mother with 3 kids and a deadbeat ex falling on hard times while working multiple jobs? For an 85-year-old vet being denied a spot at Mountain Home VA because he is NOT a substance abuser? Yeah, I'd say you have no clue. I've seen it all, with new craziness every day. I've seen the ones who are homeless by choice, and I've seen the ones who totally reverse their situation with hard work. It's true, you can't help someone who won't help themselves. And trust me, they don't stay long. For the ones in our programs, well, they're homeless, and they're busting their tails to get on their feet. But I guess they had no excuse to end up in their current situation, according to you. Be careful with your words. It's better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

A lot of my clients ask me if I ever go home because I always seem to be there, so yeah, I guess I pretty much live there. As for the name, we had a contest when we did an event at ETSU this summer to see who could give us the funniest name on their order slip. That was the silliest name we saw. I guess with a name like JCDude, I'm inclined to think you hang out in your bathrobe at Leisure Lanes sipping on White Russians and talking about how the rug really tied the room together. Good try at an insult, but you really just showed your ass. Implying that living at a shelter should be derogatory. Way to go.

Apparently the insult was just fine since you felt compelled to reply with some limp wrist come-back and lengthy justification for your moniker.
