Awww I am sorry about the boyfriend in the original post, it was almost a year ago, so what happened? I joined and couldnt stand that place. More of a social party then a gym. I like the old style gyms where you can go in with a torn T-shirt, hair up in a big ole bun and look like you just rolled out the bed.... at that place you have to make sure your scrunchie matches your spandex and you must wear waterproof mascara..lol

I am so sorry to read these posts and wish I had seen them before I joined...

Joining this gym has probably been one of the BIGGEST mistakes of my life. Not only did they take my $$$ in one lump sum, although it was supposed to be in monthly installments, they won't reimburse it due to me leaving TN to go back to FL due to a death... I used the Membership less than 2 weeks!

I am just sick to death that they don't even have the courtesy to return, phones calls, etc. VERY unprofessional!

I will let EVERYONE in the Johnson City area know about how CROOKED they are to their members!!!

A contract is a contract. Maybe some of you don't understand the concept.

Exactly. You signed a contract. I bet they hawave people trying to get out of it all the time for various reasons that most likely have nothing to do with the gym itself. That's no way to keep your business open. I have been a member of Lifestyles for years and I love it! The staff is friendly and helpful, and its very clean. If you don't want to be bound to a contract, its very simple....don't sign one!

First of all let me start off by saying that I've been a member of Lifestyles for 3 years, and for those 3 years I had no problem with the staff or facility. However, a couple of months ago I moved out of the area. When I called to cancel my contract (and be charged the 65$ fee for doing so) they told me I had to send them my lease agreement as proof of my new address AND a paycheck stub as proof of my new job. I mean, c'mon, I don't mind paying a fee but to have to go through the hell of sending private information like that... who the hell do they think they are??? Just charge me and be done with it.
So just know if you're looking into joining this gym just make sure you have no intentions of cancelling your contract because they will make you walk through hell and high water to do so.

So I posted on Oct 3rd about my troubles in cancelling my membership at Lifestyles. Despite the hoops I had to jump through they DID cancel my membership. I even faxed my information in 2 days after I usually get my monthly charge and they just charged me the difference. So at least they stand by their word. While I still think I should be able to cancel my membership without having to send in private information, I do respect them for their compliance. All business, but so much should be expected.

And it should be noted that my 3 years previous to this confusion I had absolutely no problem with them. Facility is nice, and I did get in the best shape of my life while I was a member.

Try playing the basketball at the Lifestyle Center. The floor on the basketball court is in horrible shape. The floor dips and buckles making it an injury hazard.

I used to go to this gym. I quit for several reasons but mainly because it is known for its socializing. Professional men go there to pick up any female they can. I know because I was asked out by two different local attorneys, bankers and a doctor. The only women that stay there are the ones willing to go out with all of them. It doesn't take long to see the same faces hovering around like buzzards going in for the kill.

That's awful. My dad had heart surgery and tried to suspend his cable tv service because the doctor told him to walk a lot more frequently to get his wind back. The Charter rep told him he couldn't put it on hold because he had signed a contract!

I think we should just stop paying these greedy companies altogether!

Greedy companies???? You signed a contract, i.e. a legal commitment, to use a service for a period of time in exchange for a price rate. Are you willing to pay back the difference in the contract rate versus a month by month rate for breaching your commitment? Did you even offer? Who's the greedy one?

Here is a thought for you who are preaching "you signed a contract, get over it". Do you have a mortgage? If so, that is a contract with the bank that you will pay X dollars a month for your house. Oh no! Something happens to you and you cant make any money for 6 months. The bank says thats too bad, you signed a contract (mortgage) and either pay for the house, or lose it. Now, what would be your argument then? I bet my life that ALL of you would be pleading and begging the bank for a break or understanding.
