That is the achilles heal of Obamacare. The mandatory part in relation to money.<quoted text>
Obamacare is a conservative idea which requires everyone to participate in order to keep premiums low. Now Insurance companies "cherry pick" people they cover and until Obamacare refused to cover those with "pre-existing conditions". Insurance company employees, i.e. bureaucrats with no medical training denied care that doctors recommended for their patients so as not to affect their bottom line profit. The mandatory aspect of Obamacare that was originally proposed by the Heritage Foundation and was the foundation of Romneycare is a necessary evil so as to create a pool of covered individuals who pay premiums. Should it be voluntary the majority of individuals with coverage will need the most care and those who are well (medically speaking) will not choose to get coverage until they need it. That being the case it will not be economically feasible to operate. The manadatory aspect of the law is necessary to make it work.
In essence, we are selling our freedom.
Whenever the pursuit of the dollar and freedom are incompatible, the pursuit of the dollar must come second to freedom.
The very reason why Obamacare does present us with this problem, is that the scope of Obamacare is far too big.
If we downsized Obamacare to be a program for the poor, where the government actually ran the clinics and hospitals (only for the poor or uninsurable) then the cost would go down. This as a result of not having many layers of overpaid insurance companies, middle men, and lobbyist to pay for.
Obamacare should be a direct program, run and administered by the government. If we left it at that, then it would be smaller, and most importantly, freedom would be preserved.
The theory behind Obamacare is a worthy one. But that is just the happy label on the box. Its not what is really inside the box.
The 15000 regulations, hidden taxes, penaltys, and who really knows what else, have little to do with helping the poor.
Obamacare is like a box of rat poison that has been given a new sticker-label, one that reads "candy", and with a smiley face on it.
The outside sticker may be pleasant, but what lies inside is a deadly poison.
Im not fooled.
