Last year I made fun of people for constantly looking down at a hand held object. These people were completely oblivious to the outside world and would isolate themselves to any meaningful social interaction. While talking to a person in a waiting room a distracting noise maybe some type of music started pulsating from this person's little hand held device. I was slightly offended that our conversation was abruptly ended, however I have been accustomed to this type of behavior and was not offended. I realized that time had passed me by. I purchased one of these devices and have become addicted. I am an old man and have completely isolated myself from my friends and family because of this device. I think it is going to be the end of civilized people. I now understand why people have become Pavlov's dog.

Anytime there is a something brought into the world it is used for both good and evil. When Oppenheimer split the atom, "tree hungers" said WE CAN LIGHT ENTIRE CITIES WITH THIS . and the war machine and satan said " we can blow up entire cities with this".
The internet and cell phone are tremendous instruments of information,
Dear Ashamed : IF ONLY THAT INFORMATION WAS FORCED RO BE ACCURATE AND HONEST. PROPAGANDA AND LIES AND FOX NEWS COMES OUT OF THISE THINGS EVERYDAY.
ONCE AGAIN, ONE PERSON SAYS " we can inform the world" and the wealthy and satan says " we can misinform the world"
Best wishes with you and your new phone and welcome aboard the good ship lollipop...... Never test and drive

The smart phone has changed our life and most people have a phone. Phone booths have mostly all left from pleases well know to have them on site, which was once called a phone booth.
But something new has been added to the phones which keep them within easy reach of all of us. The computer and application's they each contain. By having a phone you have given up your freedom of movement, as any good hacker can find your location, if the phone is on or off. All of this is no problem if you have your phone, but if lost your world has all but ended. As you were always watching FOX News, stock reports and oh yes keeping track of that one appointment where a big check is attached and you can hire another 1000 people to come and work for your company. On another side of the phone, you could have three or four provided by the government free to you and the kids. So you want miss that government doctors appointment. But if you have the time in your day turn you SMART PHONE OFF and left your head up to see who is standing in front of you. If you see someone standing on two sticks we call legs, do not fear and run away. Just stop smile and say hello as you will find people can be more fun than that phone you keep looking at.

Man, you said it all. I've seen so many people engrossed with these gadgets to the extent of being in another world, oblivious to what's going on. Almost like the kids reading Chairman Mao's propaganda and being run over by trains! LOL. Aw, that's not a fair representation, but I couldn't help it. I'm not against communication and information, but these smart phones are amusing us to death. I realize being able to communicate instantly might be good, but many people text or talk before they think. That puts you out in this cloud that enables you to be honed in on and either bombarded with commercial interests or even worse. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fuddy duddy and I'm deep into computer science and have been for a long time, but their impact, when it gets to the point that we substitute real interaction with them instead of the real thing gets crazy.

When I observed my two teenage daughters texting each other instead of talking while sitting at opposite ends of a sofa, I realized the human race is doomed.

@tammi...lol true. Ive been guilty of texting my teenager to do something for me while I was busy somewhere else in the house. Or if we had company over and wanted to say something to each other without them hearing while were all piled up in the living rm. Sad but true.
