I have been following the story of the new Tweetsie Trail that is scheduled to open in Sept. 2014. Just my opinion, but it's a Boondoggle of major proportion. I've tried to get answers as to who gets the money from the scrap railroad iron, and so far I haven't been given a satisfactory answer. I'm talking about a lot of money here. Those rails are worth a ton of money. Is it a coincidence that a recycling company has opened not 200 yards from the start of the trail in Johnson City? The "Rail Backing" concept seems to be a way to swindle the adjacent landowners out of what should rightfully be their land (easement). I checked out their website, which is under construction, but already trying to get donations. I see a lot of problems if it ever comes to be. There are old trestles, a rock quarry, road crossings and many more dangerous places along the trail. I grew up hiking the old railroad tracks back in the day, so I know what I'm talking about. I see nothing actually beneficial from this fiasco, unless you are a politician and/or a crony of them.

I was driving down Legion street today and saw a big bunch of men in suits with their cars parked everywhere the corner of Alabama street. I think that is where the trail is started. It looked like they were having some kind of celabration or something. When I see a bunch of men in suits walking around and acting importantI get suspicious. What are they doing there. Is the trail going to be paved or just a trail? and I saw Omnisource is real close to it.

I think the trail is just one more of those stupid land grabbing things. Who wants to walk from Elizabethton to Johnson City anyhow? Where can you get from there? It is going to be hard to drive a bicycle over a worn out railroad. It just seems to me it is like walking beside the Milligan highway for a long time and seeing a bunch of traffic and dull stuff. It will probably wind up being a place for drunks and weirdos to hang around.

I am excited about the trail. I think it is a wonderful investment for the people of Johnson City and Elizabethton. I can't wait to use the trail.

I am very happy this is finally becoming a reality. It might bore some people to just get out and walk, but to each their own. I can't wait to spend time with my kids and grandkids there.

I hope am wrong but I don't think the trail is even going to be completed. If it is it will probably be half of what was promised. Do any of you remember years back when Iris Glen (the city dump) was supposed to create a friendly wetlands reserve because a natural spring with permanent aquatic life would be destroyed? What did we get? They dammed up a section of Shit Creek on Broadway and made a good place for mosquitoes to breed. It will probably wind up about the same. I would not be shocked if during the course of becoming a trail, the city government might just claim it to be beyond the budget and put it in limbo.
