Huge jump in power bill, yet they say they have adjusted the rates. Its really cold, but so was last winter. Bill almost $600. Have done everything they tell you to do and bill is still going up.

In Jan of 2009 I used 1897 KWH and paid $185
In Jan of 2010 I used 2220 KWH and paid $179.
I used 323 KWH more this year and paid $6 less.
You must have used a huge amount of energy.
I watch my own meter and their readings are pretty accurate at my place.

Homer G'fellers is paid in excess of $150,000 a year. Is supplied $30,000 suv or car allowance(his choice). His memberships to local clubs are paid. Look at the building. Washington County is overrun with stupidity allowing public and elected officials get away with padding their own pockets and nepotism. When is enough enough?

Yep, my power bill was outrageously high for December. I contacted the power board and was given an amazing excuse. Seems they take it upon themselves to determine that the cold weather causes such a drain on electricity that they go into "emergency mode", and from what I understand, the rate increases. Yep, sounds kinda like a lame excuse to me. But what can a person do?

You defend many of the wasteful spenders which makes me think you are one of the pencil necked bureacrats who would wither in the private corprate sector. IT IS A MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD.

The part that really upsets me, is if you are going to raise our rates so high that we have to take a loan to pay the power bill, then making arrangments should be a little easier. My bill was 280 for Jan. And thats outragous when It usually runs 150. And we have went as energy saving as we can. I have tried to make arrangements to pay it, knowing I wasnt going to have enough money, and they will only let you pay half, then the other half a week later, which helps none of us who get paid every TWO weeks.

And now, If your late and they "decide" that your a risk they can charge you up to 600 dollars in deposits. Being a single mother I almost always have to arrange my bills, they all get paid, but it has to be on a certain sch. Not only will they not change the day it is due to help me, but I was told by a customer service person on the phone that I could pay it, and pay it on time or just do without.

And the times that I have been late, sure enough there is an extra hundred dollars on my power bill for a ANOTHER security deposit. Thus far counting the beginning 200 I put down on my account they have forced 600 dollars of deposits on me.

Like if I have to choose between paying my bill two weeks late or buying my kids food, that an extra hundred dollar deposit is going to make me choose letting the kids go hungry so jcpd gets there money!

I am very disturbed with the way the power company is run these days, I so wish we had a second power company like so many other areas in the US were the power board would actually have to COMPETE for people to use their service!!!!

I agree with UGH, a little competition and more flexibility for paying bills known to be higher like now during the winter would be nice.

I don't get why the rest of you are bitching about high bills during the really cold months like they just hit you up for more money for no reason at all, it's just a fact that if you you run the hell out of an electric furnace/heaters or a heat pump your gonna use a lot more electricity. JCPB has no control over how much electricity you use, you do.

I got my new bill today $183 compared to my bill say from last November which was only $67 and yeah it's high as hell, but I used a whole lot more electricity. My heat pump is the culprit for me, they really aren't designed to be used in this climate for heating, they're just not that efficient below 40 degrees and they suck electricity like a $100 whore.

I looked at my bill history again and here's what I got -
Feb 2009 I used 1899 KW and paid $185
Oct 2009 I used 796 KW and paid $75
Feb 2010 I used 2281 KW and paid $183

I again used more energy and paid less for it.
Feb 2009 I paid .097 cents per watt
Oct 2009 I paid .094 cents per watt
Feb 2010 I paid .080 cents per watt
The math doesn't lie, electricity this year is costing less than it did a year ago, so to blame anyone other than yourself for using more electricity and incurring a higher bill is just not fair.

Would I like the cost of electricity to be cheaper in general? Hell yes of course I would, but it is what it is and when you know using more means paying more it's up to you to control your spending.
