No, its not as simple as that. The government is involved now, with Obamacare. Remember?
Obamacare is not compatible with a free society. But since there are enough dullards and village idiots in the country to cheer on the wave of socialism and removing of freedoms that is about to destroy our freedoms forever, then the disease of socialism will just have to runs its ugly course.
Obamacare and the government health care tsars will have to side with the health care providers in this, and many other "for our own good" cases. And in the end, this is what everyone will face, not just employees of large companies. Obamacare is mandatory, and a lot of other things will be too, for everyone. Mandatory blood testing to see if were doing something not PC. This is where it has to go as it runs its course.
And its all "for our own good".
And of course, the leftist news media will gush all over itself with emotionalism and emotional testimony from victims and families (acting) about how bad cancer is and how we have got to do something about it.
Emotionalism works really well for socialist. Its worked in the Russian revolution of 1917, Castros takeover of Cuba in 1959, and so on. Socialism just about always has to have emotionalism to be born in a nation. It will be like that here as well. Just turn on the news and we see it happening already.
Of course, it dont take long for the people to realize they have been duped, once socialism does take hold and the ugly reality sets in. The socilist mask is then dropped and everyone sees the monster behind it. Gulag city, baby!
But by then, its too late.
The trick is to use emotionalism to convince the dolts and dullards just long enough, and the leftist media is knocking itself out doing just that. That is where the emotionalism comes in. It blinds the dullards so that they actually support the socialism monster as it is being born.
Vladimir Lenin (Communist dictator of Russia) had a phrase for the stupid people who fell for and supported the socialist rise in Russia, who are just like the modern Americans who fall for this.
He called them "useful idiots".
You are a joke ! Obamacare hasNOTHING to do with the decision not to hire smokers. What are you, republican. Your opinions are small minded and useless. No one even reads your long winded silly posts. Hell I didn't even read the whole thing.

You mindlessly admit that you didnt even take the time to first even read (let alone consider) a posts that you went into attack mode over. You have insulted me and used ad- hominem attacks in response to a post that you didnt even read.

And all of this only reveals the truth and accuracy of my previous two posts which expose the type of thinking that supporters of the Neo-Orwellian policies of which this thread is about.

And I have likened the same attitude towards the supporters of the leftist (Liberal Democrats) who casts their votes by using the self-same type of anti-logic and backwards thinking that you are demonstrating here.

For those with eyes to see,(understanding) let them see.

Well, that's true. E-cigarettes do not affect others either as long as you are not in a contained room. They have no smell either, like burning cigarettes do. I think what it boils down to here is that the agency will save money on their health insurance payments. Pretty soon they will zone in on overweight people too. I believe it is only a matter of time. People are predictable where money is concerned.

Reasons to quit:
1. Smoking makes your breath smell bad. This is a big vanity point.
2. Smoking will make your teeth turn yellow and leave nicotine stains on your fingers and fingernails which are hard to remove.
3. Smoking leaves your clothes, hair and body smelling of tobacco. This is a put off, especially if he wants to go on a date and his date does not smoke.
4. Smoking drains your energy. Sports and other activities will become increasingly difficult.
5. Smoking has serious long-term health implications. The smoke irritates the lungs and can eventually lead to a hacking cough, phlegm--and possibly cancer.

So MSHA will ultimately end up having to fund employees' abortions--paying for them to end another life--yet it's illegal for that employee (whom choose to smoke) to "kill their own self".....makes complete sense

How about focusing this vendetta against smokers into something useful? Like channeling that energy onto the DOCTORS, by getting them to more actively encourage patients to not use tobacco?? Oh wait, never mind...then MSHA would lose money because no one would be making their daily COPD affiliated visits.

The government will never ban cigarettes or legalize marijuana, cigarette related ailments are too much to capitalize on when it comes toboggan corporations---and marijuana has been proven to counteract many disease effects (which would be a big decline in the need for pharmaceutical companies). I dont smoke pot, but i know the pros and cons associated with it. View it for yourself: http://www.cancer.org/treatment/treatmentsand...

Since MSHA is all set on promoting health (as stated by several of you, and I totally agree), anyone maintaining a BMI above 30 needs to seek employment elsewhere. I don't want some sweaty, overweight nurse rubbing against me as she's changing my dressing! Same goes for diabetics as well. They could be caring for me, and instantly slip into DKA! Also, this should apply to any employee that has had or currently has experience with the following: alcoholism, anxiety, depression, history of seizures, all known psychiatric disorders, any form of substance abuse/dependency issues, contagious blood borne diseases, athletes foot, arteriosclerosis, transplant recipients, cancer, pneumonia, Mad Cow disease, pink eye, skinned knee and/or paper cut (including all persons whom has received stitches within the past 25 years), Ebola, inhalation of Anthrax spores and similar near death experiences, bad dreams, wet dreams, hair spray, food poisoning, tattoos, persons who fail to get their heartrate above 120 bpm at least 4 days a week doing some form of aerobic activity, RSV, practitioners of S&M, and any persons driving a vehicle manufactured before 1990. Hopefully MSHA sees this and amends their handbook as it covers any and everything that might possibly be considered "hazardous to health". Lets get those unemployment rates up! Who gives a $hit if 3/4 of the hospital is laid off, at least the remainder will be in good health!

You see, everyone of the issues mentioned above, whether it can be helped or not, are considered falling below the fine line leading to a discrimination lawsuit. The point is, if MSHA gets away with enacting this garbage, it won't be long before many companies follow suit---not with just smoking, but a whole slew of behaviors and ailments deemed "inappropriate" by society and the people in charge. In a sense, yes, MSHA can do whatever they please, but as someone else mentioned: more qualified, experienced perspective employees will be passed over for less qualified non smokers. I don't know about you, but I would much rather deal with the smell of smoky clothes on a nurse administering the correct meds versus a nurse drenched in perfume, attempting to smell cute, who ultimately ends up giving me the wrong pills!

In all seriousness, if the smokers go, then it would only be right to not hire an obese person. Or to restrict that persons diet until they fall to an appropriate BMI. Oh, but that WOULD be discrimnating. i see a lawsuit headed for MSHA.

Oh, and yes, I am 100% republican---what of it?

It's amazing to me, you left wing liberals think you're getting more freedoms, rights, and everybody shall have "equal opportunities"....when in fact, we're all getting lied to and are ALL standing in line for our first class ticket headed toward COMMUNISM. We will have very little freedom 25 years from now, and unfortunately, most of the ones enacting the BS won't be around to "enjoy" It.

Smoking or eating whole marijuana can cause a number of mental and emotional effects, including feelings of euphoria, short-term memory loss, difficulty in completing complex tasks, changes in the perception of time and space, sleepiness, anxiety, confusion, and inability to concentrate. A small but significant percentage of people in medical studies didn’t like the mental effects and withdrew from studies because of them. In studies, cannabinoids have been linked with effects such as depression, paranoia, and hallucinations. People who are prone to mental illness may have more serious mental and emotional effects from marijuana use.

Physical side effects include low blood pressure, fast heartbeat, dizziness, slow reaction time, and heart palpitations. Instances of serious heart problems are very rare.

Many researchers agree that marijuana smoke contains known carcinogens, or chemicals that can cause cancer much like those in tobacco smoke. Studies have shown changes in the linings of the breathing passages in marijuana smokers. But results of epidemiologic studies of marijuana and cancer risk have been inconsistent, and most recent epidemiologic studies have not found a substantial effect on cancer risk. It’s possible that some of these differences are due to the fact that most marijuana smokers don’t smoke as much or as often as tobacco smokers. Effects might be more evident in heavy marijuana smokers. Some researchers also caution that these studies are difficult to conduct, as some people may not admit to illegal habits such as smoking marijuana, and that negative results should not be interpreted as convincing evidence of safety. They caution that smoking marijuana may cause lung disease and increase the risk of cancer of the lungs, mouth, and tongue.

Most of the spread of MRSA is caused by visitors who never wash their hands when they come see grandma as they lay all over grandma and then touch everything as they leave.
Impairment is something that should be handled as a national issue. People are just as deadly in a car as they are in a hospital and drugs are easier to get outside the hospital.

__________
Why aren't the impaired docs charged with reckless endangerment? Why doesn't the hospital report this to law enforcement? How about the one doc who went ballistic in the ER a few years back and no police called????

MRSA infected rooms are all over the place in that hospital.

JCMC does need an overhaul. Starting at the top with the obscene salary of the CEO. Cleaning up the MRSA problem using part of that positions pay cut to get started.
Making certain the employees are not on ILLEGAL drugs while employed. Then, looks at making employees smell better, LOL!!!!!
Their priorities are out of order.
Sorry Furious George for what happened to you!!!!!!!!! Bet you would have preferred a doc that smoked cigs, rather than used cocaine??
