Mountain States Health Alliance Says ...

I think it's pretty stupid to say, "nurses are supposed to promote health" when we're not talking about what they are doing AT WORK. Being a nurse is a JOB. If someone works at Wal Mart, but they are off the clock and just there shopping with their family, do you expect them to help you find the batteries or toilet paper? No? Why not? Isn't that what Wal Mart employees do?

Nurses already have more restrictions than the average Joe. They have to pass a background check above and beyond what most people have to pass. Thought that juvenile record wouldn't show up? It does if you're a nurse. There are a whole slew of medications you're not allowed to be taking while practicing that lots of people take routinely. Many states also ask, "Have you been treated for an addiction or mental illness within the past 5 years?" So, nurses aren't allowed to be humans who get diagnosed with depression or have addiction issues like the rest of the population.

So, there's already a large pool of "would be good nures" who are knocked out of the running because they got a DUI a few years ago, started drinking too much after a divorce and sought treatment, or had a chemical imbalance that's easily managed with medication. Then, people wonder why there aren't enough nurses or there aren't any "good nurses." Knocking people out of the running who have ever sought psychiatric treatment or treatment for addiction just encourages nurses NOT to get help for their problems. As long as you keep drinking or popping pills then you can answer honestly when they ask if you've been treated for addiction. People will find ways around this too. If they have to stop smoking and then start back up after hired then they'll do that. Besides, this isn't just applied to the nurses, but also the janitors, housekeepers, stock people, cafeteria workers, etc.

I agree that people taking 500 smoke breaks while at work is annoying. That's an issue of poor management that needs to be addressed. Anyway, that has nothing to do with this new policy. It's all about money related to healthcare costs. When you start policing what people can and can not do on their own time within the privacy of their own homes, you're starting on a slippery slope.

Putting more and more restrictions on top of the already long list of hoops for nurses is really not the best way to "make it appealing for more people to want to go into nursing" like we keep hearing in the news.

They are not hiring smokers at all weather it's smokers that due it at home or at work. But they are letting the people who smoke now still continue to work their. Why? Because to many people would get fired. Well it they are going make it mandatory for new hires they should make it mandatory for the current employees.
Next it will be if your BMI is over (xxx) we will not hire you.
Or if your diabetic we will not hire you
That should be "whether it's smokers..."
"continue to work there"
"because too many people"
"well, if they are"
"if you're diabetic".

Learn to spell. You make a good point but no one will take you serious if you sound ignorant because of your spelling.

You may wanna research what CNA's make for companies that do in home health care. I know CNA's that make between $15-$19 an hour.. So decent job is a fair assessment in my opinion.

You are spot on. If I ever move back to East TN it looks like ill move closer to Wellmont. I'll take my smoking related problems to them and let them make the money..

If MSHA enforces this policy, over time they will decrease the amount of their health insurance premiums, so the non-smoking employees will benefit from this. It's really not difficult to see why companies do this.

The problem is they don't wait and the rest of us have enough patients to care for without watching after smokers' patients while they light up outside. Plus, if a patient COPD or some other respiratory issue, then the smoke smell on their clothes is harmful to the patients.
As far as the obesity issue, they already test for issues related to that when you are hired.

And then the big brother (regime/corporation) will tell you what and when you will have permission to eat...for your own good of course.

It will be enforced and tested by mandatory blood tests,(or any other tests or peocedure the corporation/regime deems to be "for our own good".

(Meals contracted to be provided by the supplier that gives the best bribes to the local politicians. But that will have nothing to do with anything, of course)

(Also, leadership positions for the politicians and corporation executives will have exempt status, but that wont be talked about and the leftist, regime controlled media will never cover that story)

And then the big brother will tell us what we can watch on TV, for our own good of course.

Also, chat rooms and all social media will have to be controlled by the big brother government/corporation. If you want to post anything, it will have to be cleared by a big brother censor first. You can say anything you like, as long as it is totally PC, and is approved.

Its for our own good.

And our religion will also be administered by our betters, so that any religious experience that is not PC will be banned. Its for our own good.

And sex will have to be regulated as well. There will be a lot of phoney baloney studies presented to justify why sexual activities will have to be monitored by big brother (and strictly regulated too).

So, Americans are being stripped of their freedoms in the name of "its for our own good", while the government/corporation complex (big brother)is making us into another Stalinist era socialist Hellhole.

The leftist media are lying themselves silly pushing every socialist cause in the book and supporting it with all sorts of twisted and perverted "Its for our own good" logic and phoney and distorted studies and faked polls.

The sad and frightening thing to see is that there are so many gullible people out there who actually believe this PC crap.

It dont look good for the nation, does it? Were definitely going in the wrong direction.

Taking a deranged, conspiracy theorist like you with any grain of seriousness would be going in the wrong direction. Your what if attitude will destroy America and people like you who would perpetrate the failure and destruction would sit back with a smirk on their face and say "see, I told ya". When all the while, the whole problem was caused by your spreading unfounded panic in something that never even happened.

It's a private business hiring who they want to hire and not hiring who they don't. You've taken this context and escalated to something it isn't. You have the right to smoke, however, a business has the right to not hire you because you do. It is as simple as that.

No, its not as simple as that. The government is involved now, with Obamacare. Remember?

Obamacare is not compatible with a free society. But since there are enough dullards and village idiots in the country to cheer on the wave of socialism and removing of freedoms that is about to destroy our freedoms forever, then the disease of socialism will just have to runs its ugly course.

Obamacare and the government health care tsars will have to side with the health care providers in this, and many other "for our own good" cases. And in the end, this is what everyone will face, not just employees of large companies. Obamacare is mandatory, and a lot of other things will be too, for everyone. Mandatory blood testing to see if were doing something not PC. This is where it has to go as it runs its course.

And its all "for our own good".

And of course, the leftist news media will gush all over itself with emotionalism and emotional testimony from victims and families (acting) about how bad cancer is and how we have got to do something about it.

Emotionalism works really well for socialist. Its worked in the Russian revolution of 1917, Castros takeover of Cuba in 1959, and so on. Socialism just about always has to have emotionalism to be born in a nation. It will be like that here as well. Just turn on the news and we see it happening already.

Of course, it dont take long for the people to realize they have been duped, once socialism does take hold and the ugly reality sets in. The socilist mask is then dropped and everyone sees the monster behind it. Gulag city, baby!

But by then, its too late.

The trick is to use emotionalism to convince the dolts and dullards just long enough, and the leftist media is knocking itself out doing just that. That is where the emotionalism comes in. It blinds the dullards so that they actually support the socialism monster as it is being born.

Vladimir Lenin (Communist dictator of Russia) had a phrase for the stupid people who fell for and supported the socialist rise in Russia, who are just like the modern Americans who fall for this.

He called them "useful idiots".

It has nothing to do with control. Did you know that people with lung diseases can't tolerate certain smells? Did you know it makes them physically ill? Well now you know & probably still don't care! It's very rude & selfish of people to smoke around others. Especially around sick people! If you smokers wanna kill yourselves slowly then that's your business but don't bring that sh!t around me!
