<quoted text>Puff, it's the same old story. One hand washes the other as far as government and big business go. There are more loopholes involved in more ways than kraut lays in a barrel. Damnable shame that while they are conjuring ways to make money, we are paying for it one way or the other. Who knows who is actually paying for it on paper? I for one know that we, the common folk are paying one way or the other.
If tax payers foot the bill for TennCare then I see the write offs without insurance being paid for by tax payers as being no different. It takes an act of congress to get on TennCare. If you're not a migrant worker or a pregnant single woman or the child of a single woman you pretty much don't have a prayer.

Thanks for the explanation. Seems like rather then putting those proffits back into frivolous construction projects they could use it to pay for the write offs. If they're a non profit business why are the owners of MSHA millionaires? You keep saying that 40+ billion can't be absorbed but how does that number compare to their income? I'm guessing the 40+ billion dollar figure was based nation wide, correct?
yep nationwide...and they have to put the money into the hospital, not salaries or the pockets of the owners. The owners did not get rich from the hospital. They were already rich when they bought it !

I've worked at the JCMC. If you're ever at their ER I helped paint almost all those rooms. The company I worked for drew money off that job for years. I guess now I understand why. I helped on the administrations remodel job too. It makes sense to me now why they did so many things that really made no sense budget wise on those projects.
State Law Says---

If you want to be technical about it, here is the state law for TN regarding employees who smoke. If they are going to drug test for smoking, then they should drug test for alcohol as well. Both are legal by the government. And I've never heard of someone smashing their car and killing innocent people because they smoked a cigarette. How may alcohol related incidents do we hear of? So yeah, ban smoking, ban alcohol, ban fat people, ban people with Type II Diabetes. Let's not forget about the people who lay in tanning beds, too!
Smoking Protection Law
No employee, including employees of state and local government, shall be discharged or terminated solely for participating or engaging in the use of an agricultural product not regulated by the alcoholic beverage commission that is not otherwise proscribed by law, if such employee participates or engages in such use in a manner which complies with all applicable employer policies regarding such use during times at which such employee is working; and/or if such employee participates or engages in such activity during times when such employee is not working. This section shall not be used for frivolous lawsuits, and anyone trying to do so is subject to sanction.

I'm glad they may start this. The smoke smell is one of the worst things someone can be around.

juniorfan is right don't even apply there. working conditions there are horrible. the employees don't make a decent living. you only get a 1% raise IF you're lucky and their benefits are constantly being cut and the insurance sucks like hell and costs a fortune. i know many single parents who work there that are constantly receiving help from parents, grandparents, and friends to help feed themselves and their children because their paycheck is that low!!! the company is looking at outsourcing everything too. since the new president arrived it's gotten worse cause the leadership there is acting like tyrants willing to stab anyone in the back to keep their cushy $500K+ job. they are getting ready to have a major layoff too. so unless you're in dire straits stay far away.

You don't get a raise for being able to breathe. You have to do something to EARN a raise. When you learn this simple concept, good things will start happening.
