Does anybody have experience with birthing at Franklin Woods? Was it good? Were you able to get an epidural when you felt like you needed it? Did it work? If not, did they fix it? Thanks!

I positively really can't say. But I have noticed that Franklin Woods is more a stopgap than a real hospital. As for comforts and nice rooms, it's a go. But if you need a real doctor ASAP, forget it. They are a secondary outfit, more or less.
They have to contact the docs according to "their" schedule. It seems everything there is in slow motion. The Med center has priority. There are a few good staff, but I sure wouldn't depend on them. I would advise against birthing there. Just my opinion. I think the place would be great for someone "drying out" or in no immediate need for medical care. I recommend them, only (and only!) if you don't have any unusual problems with your pregnancy. Keep in mind, they are secondary as far as real emergencies or urgent care. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but they are not top notch.

Yes, all 3 of my babies were born at FWCH. It was a wonderful birthing center. The anesthesia team was great and I had no issues whatsoever with my epi. The only downside I see there is the cafeteria hours.

The docs at FWCH are the exact same docs that are at JCMC. They just cover different shifts.

yes, same doctors, different hospitals. JCMC gets preferential treatment and that's a fact. Biggest problem is going through phone calls to them and red tape, and their lack of going from the big hospital to the little one. I have no praise for the cracks you will fall through.

Beyond agree with the falling through the cracks and slow motion of the staff. If this was our first child then I would have lost it. Several times was told it would be a minute and that turned into hours. Got more help from a janitor than the nurse. If there had been a complication then we might have been in trouble. Rooms were big but a room does not take care of your child. Don't let the fancy room and facility fool you. Deliver somewhere else. As a husband I feel like I let down my wife by coming to Franklin Woods.

Franklin Woods was wonderful during our birth and that was with delivery complications!!! I couldn't have asked for more. The only downside was no NICU but luckily we ended up not needing it. I would definitely recommend it. And the nursing staff was great to us.

And I understand from a grandmother in my neighborhood that C-sections are done at Franklin Woods. Is that right?

Are they part of MSHA?

They are part of msha. They have slightly different policies though and their l&d are different obs than jcmc. They have a higher induction and much higher c section rate than jcmc even though they are not the high risk delivering hospital. I do not recommend them as a doula. You will not get the level of care and involvement in your birth as you will with jcmc. Outcomes and facilities are better at the new jcmc birthing center
